Kingston Clippers' 2015 home opener was as even a match as it gets, with Andrew Martin tallying for the home team and Master's Michael Bershov registering the equalizer for the visitors to finish 1-1.

Both teams coped with oppressive mid-day heat, and much of the match would be fought in the crucial midfield third. The scoreline would have been different if both teams had not suffered from a lack of composure in the final third.

"We couldn't break down an organized Master's defense and lacked creativity in their final third," confirmed Kingston's technical director, Chris Eveleigh. "The heat certainly didn't help either team."

Kingston had a disallowed goal within the first five minutes, which Eveleigh pointed out as the key moment in this match of few clear-cut chances.

Eveleigh singled out the work of the Clippers' goalscorer, Andrew Martin, as his player of the match for Clippers, and Master's defensive mid Jude Alanwako for his role in repelling the Clippers' attack.

"Andrew played out of position for the second week in a row, but came up with a goal, and worked tirelessly defending and attacking."

Master's head coach, Junior Groves, also singled out the work of Alanwoko as representative of his team's performance, and in addition the efforts of Tyrell Rayne. In his view, Kingston's standout was #8, Joey Pineo.

"The Clippers dictated the game in the first ten minutes, then I felt we took over for much of the first half of the match," said Groves. "We lapsed near half time, but scored early in the second half to come back and then missed some very good chances. We held off some significant pressure from Kingston late in the game, and that was the tie."
