An historic weekend at Hamilton's Tim Horton's Stadium, which marked the beginning of Canada's first domestic semi-professional women's league, was kicked off by a very entertaining 2-2 draw in a friendly between Sanjaxx Lions of League1 Ontario, and Ottawa Fury Academy, who were invited to take part in the day's festivities.

"It was a very good game," said Sanjaxx head coach Laza Lowe. ""The opening day was really really good. We look forward to seeing even more fans in the future to enjoy the entertainment."

Sanjaxx player Jordyn Listro opened the scoring in the 34th minute, but the Fury's Angelina Gendreau responded within a minute to keep things all square. Sanjaxx's Diana Attison put the Lions ahead just after the half-time break, but Gendreau responded again in the 61st minute.

Lowe chose his players Emma Czernuszka and Jordyn Listro as his MVPs. "Outstanding player for Ottawa was their goal scorer, Angelina Gendreau," added Lowe. "Her second goal was very well taken."

"Our biggest challenge in the game was the ability to finish off the opponent. We need better composure in front of the net, better decision making going for goal."

"The game was tied due to our 'keeper's inability to get off her line quicky and retrieve a good ball that was put over the top of the defence," said Lowe.

"We look to do everything in a positive framework, to assess what we need to do to get better," said Lowe, looking to his upcoming sessions on the training pitch.

Sanjaxx will play their first official League1 Ontario match next weekend, and will betravelling to King City to be the guests of ANB Futbol.
