ANB Futbol Women and Sanjaxx Lions Women settled on a share of the points after an entertaining 3-3 draw in King City on Saturday.

The match was a very back and forth affair, with ANB's Kelsey Araujo opening the scoring in the 14th minute, and captain Cat Rogers adding another in the 37th. However, Sanjaxx quickly replied via a 39th minute Julia Wong strike, before Emma Czernuszka equalized in the 51st minute. ANB's Brianna Lena waited just one minute before adding a third for ANB in the 52nd minute, but Sanjaxx's Jordyn Listro would end the day's scoring in the 82nd, ensuring both teams went home with a point.

"Definitely, the weather conditions were tough – rain and wind throughout the match," said ANB head coach Marcelo Almeida. "The women were tough to brave the elements and display an exciting game of football."

"I thought #15 Jordyn Listro was consistently dangerous – very technical on the ball & not afraid to drive forward to provide opportunities to her team-mates," he added.

Both Almeida and Sanjaxx head coach, Laza Lowe, selected ANB player Cat Rogers as the standout ANB performer, although Almeida was quick to share the credit throughout the team.

"It was a team effort, but to single out the play of Cat Rogers and Diana Esteireiro is important," he said. "They provided leadership and composure to the midfield and the backline. Cat scoring the second goal of the game on nice left foot strike was very rewarding for her."

ANB: CAT ROGERS

Lowe looked to Sanjaxx goalscorer Julia Wong, and the leadership and focus of Emily Belton, as reasons for MVP performances for the away side, but rued small lapses of team concentration that led to the loss of two points.

"We came back from 2-0 down to 2-2 tie," recalled Lowe. "Then, while celebrating our second goal, we lost focus temporarily and allowed ANB to score their third goal. That was a turning point which went on to result in a tie rather than a win. We will learn to stay focused even after we score a goal."

ANB: TAYLOR TAFFO

Late game heroics from ANB's goalkeeper Taylor Taffo saved the home side from conceding late, or Sanjaxx could have been going home with all three points.

"A key moment was certainly a last minute save by Taylor Taffo, to keep the game level," said Almeida. "She came out fearless to challenge a 1 v 1 opportunity for Sanjaxx, forcing a quick shot that was deflected over the bar."

Sanjaxx and ANB meet again in league play on June 7th at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York.
