Oakville Blue Devils went top of the league with a solid 4-0 win over Kingston Clippers, courtesy of goals from Felipe Vilela (22'), Anthony Novak (37', 52') and Tyler Wason (59').

"Our primary focus was to start the game much better than we have been doing in recent games," said head coach Duncan Wilde. "I was very pleased with the high tempo and the amount of possession we had in the first half, which resulted in us making several good goal scoring opportunities."

OBD: FELIPE VILELA

In the first twenty minutes, Kingston and Oakville traded chances, until Oakville began to settle in and scored off a great team move.

"Felip scored an excellent opening goal rounding off one of our best plays of the season," agreed Wilde. "Likewise, Anthony Novak made it 2-0 before halftime, again complementing a very good build up of play down the left side of the field. Two more goals in the second half from Wason and Novak sealed a well deserved victory and all three points."

OBD: BRADON CULVER

"We had many opportunities to finish in this match, but did not capitalize on them," commented Kingston head coach, Christian Hoefler. "Oakville is a well-organized side that possess great technical ability and is quite creative going forward. We needed a goal, but just could not secure one."

Both coaches were full of praise for the other side's performance, and did not hesitate to highlight certain individuals for special mention.

OBD: ANTHONY NOVAK

"Former Toronto Lynx defender Austin White had a strong performance for Kingston, and made an excellent goal line clearance in the early going to keep the score at that time to 0-0," recalled Wilde.

"Eric Crawford made his first appearance of the season at centre back, replacing the injured Chris Carafilov, while leading goalscorer Anthony Doran remains sidelined also," added Wilde, "so we are very pleased to be able to rotate the squad and present such a strong all round performance."

KC: ERIC KOSKINS

"Anthony Novak added two excellent goals and gave the Kingston back four many problems throughout the game."

"For us, Eric [Koskins] continued to be a menace throughout the match for the opposing side's defense and led by example, even when our side was behind," said Hoefler. "Julian's [Piccioli] firm tackling and precision delivery created many opportunities for us to gain advantages from the flanks."

KC: AUSTIN WHITE

"Felipe Vilela was a handful to deal with and created many scoring opportunities for the Devils," he added, while Bradon Culver was another central attacking player that was consistent with the ball and was extremely dynamic and fluid going forward."

Oakville Blue Devils are now top of the League1 Ontario table with 16 points from six matches, two clear of second place Vaughan Azzurri. Oakville returns to league play on Friday June 12, away to Windsor Stars at McHugh Stadium, 8 p.m. kickoff.

Kingston Clippers are off until June 20, when they face Sigma F.C. at Queens University (Tindall Field), 2 p.m. kickoff.
