Sigma F.C gave 2015 League1 Ontario newcomers Pro Stars F.C. a real shellacking on Saturday afternoon, scoring seven goals in eighty minutes and downing the Stars 7-1. Thomas Winski (85') got the lone tally for PFC.

"Some of the players just struggled with the game," said Pro Stars F.C. head coach Josef Komlodi. "This coming week we are reorganising the team to get the game results."

SIGMA: JUSTIN STODDART

Evan James opened the scoing for Sigma in the tenth minute, but it was Justin Stoddart's brace (14', 50') that led the scoring for Sigma.

"Kwame Awuah and Justin Stoddart were two players that did very well for us individually," said Sigma head coach Bobby Smyrniotis. "It was a very good team match for us, but the two guys did well to both finish opportunities and set up goals and final attempts. They did a very good job on either side of our wings to provide dangerous situations to our opponent."

Four more Sigma players got on the score sheet as well, with Alex Halis (57'), Jamal Joseph (66'), Jordan Stoddart (73') and Marcus Hanson (80') steadily increasing the goals for column for the Mississauga-based academy.

"In general we did a very good job from start to finish and it is always good to put the ball into the back of the net and equally important to have multiple players getting involved in the scoring," said Smyrniotis. "We wanted to impose ourselves early on and we did that with the two early goals and multiple chances from the run of play. We wanted to make a bigger effort at gaining more final attempts to goal and today we were successful with getting to the opponent's goal and constantly creating scoring opportunities."

"Our early goal in the second half to go up 3-0 was equally important, which provided us some more space to play in further into the second half."

Sigma saw out the match with an increased focus on possessive play, managing the result and dealing with less than ideal weather conditions.

"The weather can be a factor in following through with a game plan and by kickoff it was quite hot, which can cause the tempo of the match to slow," said Smyrniotis. "In all we did a very good job in the first 20 minutes but our last part of the first half saw us slow tempo down too much."

PFC: THOMAS WINSKI

With the result, Sigma moves into third place in the League1 Ontario standings after seven matchweeks. Sigma is six points behind second-place Vaughan Azzurri, and eight points behind leaders Oakville Blue Devils, but has a game in hand on both opponents.

Sigma's next match is a midweek league fixture on Wednesday June 17 vs. Woodbridge Strikers at Hershey Centre, 9 p.m. kickoff. The team will have little time to rest before a Saturday June 20 league fixture away at Queens University (Tindall Field) vs. Kingston Clippers, 2 p.m. kickoff.

Twelfth-place Pro Stars F.C. is still searching for a first win, and also has a busy week, beginning with a Tuesday June 16 L1 Cup match vs. Windsor Stars at Terry Fox Stadium, 8 p.m. kickoff. PFC then has a Sunday June 21 league match away to Sanjaxx Lions - 9 p.m. at Esther Shiner Stadium.
