Vaughan Azzurri continued the form in L1 Cup play that has seen them push Oakville Blue Devils at the top of the League1 standings, beating Kingston Clippers 4-1 away in Kingston.

Vaughan's Mario Kovacevic (17', 70'), Maurizio Ragone (41') and Austin Ricci (85') made sure the result was in hand for the visitors, but Kingston's Jordan Brooks (73') finished off an excellent team move for the Clippers to give the hosts some consolation. All goals can be seen in the highlight video below.

"Joey Cicchillo was lethal in transition and they couldn't handle Mario Kovacevic, who scored two," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "But the story was the young ones - 18-year-old Maurizio Ragone and Kai Olguin - that were quick and technical, and set the tempo in the middle."

Kingston Clippers head coach Christian Hoefler agreed with his opposite number's assessment.

"A vast majority of the attacking play began through Mario [Kovacevic] and he was a vital part to each goal that Vaughan scored," said Hoefler. "The #11 [Joey Cicchillo] winger caused havoc on the left flank and was up and down the pitch. Our defense had a difficult time containing his pace."

"Vaughan is one of the top teams in the League1 and we knew they would be gifted technically," he continued. "What became an immediate challenge was the pace each player on the opposition displayed and how fast their counter attacks were executed. We absorbed many of their attacks; however the tempo they displayed led to most of their goals against us."

In spite of Vaughan's early lead, the match was closely contested through the first half, and much of the second. It was Vaughan's third goal that effectively ended all probability of a comeback, although Kingston's fantastic goal via Brooks kept hope alive.

"Once Vaughan scored their third goal, it became an uphill battle for us," confirmed Hoefler. "We had started the second half well and were attacking in their end for a good twenty minutes. With our side emphasizing more towards bringing the match level, it did lead to us being more exposed at the back. We had scored an exceptional goal; however Vaughan countered with a fourth to seal the match."
