It was a very closely matched contest between Vaughan Azzurri and Sigma F.C. in matchweek nine Leagu1 Ontario men's play, and it took to the very last minute to determine the result.

With both teams playing high pressure defence, it was a battle for either side to move the ball up the pitch, but when they did - chances were aplenty for both Sigma and Vaughan. However, it would take until the forty-fifth minute for a player to finish a chance, with Sigma and Canada U20 forward Evan James potting his fifth of the season at the death of the half.

A refocused Azzurri took the pitch for second half, and created a number of early chances, most notable at the sixty-seventh minute off a well-delivered corner before Sigma netminder Triston Henry managed to punch the ball clear.

Vaughan again had Henry at their mercy in the eighty-fourth minute, after a well-worked move down Sigma's right channel led to an effort that beat the Sigma #1 but cracked agonizingly off the left goal-post.

The Azzurri kept loading on the pressure, however, and in the first minute of extra time they would find the breakthrough after University of Syracuse freshman and Vaughan Azzurri centreback Kamal Miller headed home at the back post following a well-placed free-kick.

Sigma will have been devastated by conceding the late equalizer, but will have their opportunity to make amends and move forward on Saturday July 4 at Hershey Centre vs. Sanjaxx Lions, 4 p.m.

Vaughan will be happy to have got the point, but the result leaves the second-place Azzurri six points behind leader Oakville Blue Devils. Vaughan returns to League1 play on Saturday July 4 vs. Kingston Clippers at Tindall Field (Queens University), 7 p.m.
