Vaughan Azzurri forward Maxine Murchie (45', 45+1', 67', 75') put in a brace on both sides of half, registering four goals on the day and a convincing 4-0 win for the Azzurri at the home of ANB Futbol.

The win moves Vaughan within five points of leaders Durham United F.C., with a game in hand on the table-toppers.

"Finishing four goals in any game is an accomplishment, therefore I would have to reward #17 Maxine Murchie," said ANB's head coach Marcelo Almeida.

"The biggest challenge for us is that we are dealing with injuries to some key players and, unfortunately, we had an injury to a player during the warm-up and during the game which affected the overall team game plan," Almeida said.

"The key moments in the match were four minutes at the end of the first half, when there was confusion in getting a substitute on the field for an injured player, resulting in playing with ten players and unfortunately the team lost their composure and allowed two quick goals."

Still, Almeida found room to identify the defensive work of one of his players as worthy of an MVP designation, while Vaughan head coach Carmine Isacco picked out ANB's Courtney Evans for special mention.

"I thought Kristina Nalbandian played an important role in the match," Almeida said, "keeping to her responsibilities and doing what we asked of her, especially on the defensive side."

Murchie capitalized on ANB's momentary loss of focus, and with her two second half tallies added on the Vaughan forward rocketed up the goal standings to crack into the top ten goalscorers in the league.

"The turning point for us was when we figured out how to time our runs to get behind the high line of their back," said Isacco. "We are also just looking to get health right now, as were missing seven regulars."

ANB is back in action on Friday July 10, leaving less than a week to get squad members back from injury list and the team rebounding from the loss.

"We have a short week to recover, but we hope to get some good news from injured players in order to be at full strength against a stronger ProStars team," commented Almeida.

Vaughan Azzurri is playing Woodbridge Strikers on Saturday July 11 at McNaughton Field, Maple - 2 p.m. kickoff.
