ANB Futbol put 2014 L1 Cup champions Vaughan Azzurri out of the 2015 L1 Cup after a brilliant away performance, featuring goals by Jahsua Reid (87') and Adonijah Reid (8'). Matthew Arnone (65') scored for the home side, and conceded an own goal (67').

The match was a testy one, with both sides giving no ground to the opposition. ANB took four cautions in the match, while Vaughan took four as well - two of which went to Dena Iezady, who was dismissed in 75th minute.

ANB: KRISTOFER MICHAEL

"Kris Michael played a solid game [for ANB] covering for an injured centre back," said Marcelo Almeida, assistant coach for ANB. "Dena Iezady was MVP for Vaughan until he received a red card."

ANB needed to make several changes to their usual team, due to a lengthening injury list, but the debutantes performed well, particularily in the defensive lines.

ANB: ADONIJAH REID

"Due to injuries in the defensive line, our biggest challenge was to keep defensive composure and shape," said Almeida. "Key moment was securing third goal to seal the victory late in the second half."

ANB will face a difficult challenge in the next couple weeks, as they proceed to the semi-finals of the L1 Cup, as well as encountering some difficult fixtures in the league.

VA: DENA IEZADY

"We will work hard to ensure injured players recover in time for the next matches, which are critical for advancement in the league standings and pursuing the cup championship," concluded Almeida.

ANB will play Sigma in the semi-finals of the L1 Cup, date and location TBA. In the league, ANB plays Pro Stars on Saturday July 25, 7 p.m., at Victoria Park, Brampton.

Vaughan plays in the league next on Sunday July 26, 2 p.m., taking on Windsor Stars at McNaughton Turf, Maple.
