A very well organized ANB women's side soundly defeated Sanjaxx Lions 3-1 in late group stage L1 Cup play.
"No-one from ANB Futbol stood out, but ALL the players played above expectations to secure the win," said head coach, Marcelo Almeida.
"GK for the Sanjaxx team made many point-blank saves to keep their team in the match," he added, " but our biggest challenge was ensuring players remembered their individual responsibilities, working with each other to build up attacking sequences resulting in opportunities on goal."
Cat Rogers (16', 48') and Kelsey Aruajo (68') were the scorers for ANB, while Oni Bernard (60') got the consolation goal for Sanjaxx.
"Key moment was securing the third goal to maintain a two-goal cushion," said Almeida. "ANB had many opportunities to convert and seal the victory earlier in the game, but could not finish."
"After the third goal, the team maintained possession and kept composure to see the win through."
ANB Futbol will play out their final group stage L1 Cup match on July 30 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge, vs. Woodbridge Strikers - 8:30 p.m. kickoff.
Sanjaxx Lions will play next in the league, meeting Pro Stars at Monarch Park Stadium on Saturday July 25, 6 p.m.
