Vaughan Azzurri went on a rampage over ANB Futbol in matchweek 13, winning 10-1 away at ANB's Country Day School grounds.

Still, ANB head coach Marcelo Almeida found positives in the match for his young side.

"We will look at this game on video and see how players can be more tactically aware to cut-off passes and anticipate the plays a bit more," he said. "We have to chalk this one up to experience and I believe the players will rebound in the next game to show they are better than what the result indicated."

Despite the lopsided final scoreline, much of the first half was a much closer affair.

"Key moment was allowing the second and third goals from Vaughan, especially when ANB worked hard to tie the game at one mid-way through the first half," said Almeida.

"The pace of the Vaughan players was too tough for the ANB players to handle."

Drafting through some younger players, and relying on a diminishing core of experienced players from earlier in the season, ANB struggled with the initial physical and mental demands.

"Biggest challenge was dealing with pace and physicality of a team much older and experienced than ANB," added Almeida. "The girls, on average, were three to four years older and the difference was evident."

"Vaughan pushed to control the game in the first 20 minutes, and forced mistakes from a young ANB defending back-line. Unfortunately, ANB could not absorb the pressure and allowed the game to be dictated by Vaughan."

Almeida singled out several players for their performances, both ANB and Azzurri standouts.

"[For ANB] I believe Victoria Duraes played another strong game, helping to try to contain as much as possible the strong attack from Vaughan," he said. "She consistently kept working until the end of the game and provided the assist to Kelsey Araujo's equalizing goal early in the first half."

"[But] anyone who scores four [ed.] goals in a game should be recognized," he added. "Especially with the quality strikes as [Vaughan's] Colleen Beasely did in the second half."

ANB will remain at home at Country Day School on Saturday August 29, playing Pro Stars F.C. - 4 p.m. kickoff.

Vaughan continues on the road with a trip to Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge, to play Woodbridge Strikers on Sunday August 30 - 5 p.m. kickoff.
