Woodbridge Strikers continued their late season revival, beating Sanjaxx Lions 2-0 after goals by forward Jessica Lisi and midfield dynamo, April Syme.

"The outstanding player today was April Syme, who not only had her regular hard-fought game in midfield, and scored the opening goal on a beautiful header to the top corner, but she had the added pressure of organizing a very young attacking midfield of two '99s (Sydney Johnson in the first half and Katya Tarasoff in the second half)," said Woodbridge coach, Joe Parolini.

With her goal, Lisi takes the lead in the women's 2015 Golden Boot race, outpacing Durham United F.C.'s Alexandria Lamontagne by 19 goals to 18 goals.

"The key moment in the match was our corner when April Syme out-jumped everyone and placed it into the top corner," said Parolini.

"Our speed of play and switches were also key to the game and caused Pro Stars problems all game. Our wide players, League 1 leading goal scorer Jessica Lisi and Olivia DiCristofaro, caused havoc down the flanks all game and this helped set-up a lot of our attacks."

With the win, Woodbridge Strikers added a fifth clean sheet in seven matches, and posted some impressive statistics - 29 goals for, and only four goals against. Now on 34 points from 15 matches, the win catapulted Strikers into first place over Durham United F.C. However, Durham rested the weekend past, and with 33 points in only 12 matches the east Toronto team will have a significant number of opportunities to retake the lead.

"Now we focus on the away game with Pro Stars and try to continue to keep our momentum going and driving for first place," said Parolini.

"We will still need some help but we need to do our part and continue winning."
