Hollie Babut and Geneva Winterink got braces as Durham United FC women added another crucial three points to their column after soundly defeating Sanjaxx Lions 8-0 on the weekend.

"The key moment in the match was the kickoff because they had the much better team, and a model that we hope to emulate going forward," said Sanjaxx head coach, Laza Lowe. "The biggest challenge was really the speed of the Durham team, we were overmatched for speed."

"We have quite a few young players right now and so they are getting an opportunity," he added. "Our MVPs were young players Morgan Hendrick and Julianna Fernandes."

"Our young players are getting a feel for League1, and they are relishing the idea of playing in the league and have shown good technical ability and fighting spirit. It's all about introducing young players into that level of play and seeing if they can cope in that environment."

Durham women are now only four points away from clinching the title and can do so this week, provided they beat Vaughan Azzurri on Wednesday September 23 (7 p.m. kickoff at McNaughton Turf, Maple) and ANB Futbol on Saturday September 26 (4 p.m. kickoff at Country Day School).

Sanjaxx Lions play North Mississauga Panthers on Saturday September 26 at Monarch Park Stadium, Toronto - 9 p.m. kickoff.
