In the men's division, second place Woodbridge Strikers kept the heat on leaders Oakville Blue Devils with a convincing 5-0 victory over Pro Stars F.C.

"The team is playing much better in the last few games," said Strikers head coach, Peter Pinizzotto.

"We are more creative when we attack, our speed of play has improved, and also we are creating more scoring chances. In the second half the team took advantage of the scoring chances by scoring four goals. In the first half the team missed too many scoring opportunities including a penalty shot."

Strikers' keeper Matt George kept the clean sheet, while Cameron Brooks, Jonathan Parolini, Victor Munoz, Emmanuel Esho and Stefano Voci shared the goalscoring duties.

"I thought the second goal in the second half by Jonathan Parollini was the turning point in the game," said Pinizzotto.

In this match against Pro Stars, Woodbridge married some freewheeling goalscoring exploits with the steely defensive resiliency that has characterized their play throughout the season, and ensured they have the best defensive record in the league with only 12 goals allowed in 18 league matches.

"Again in this game we did a great job defensively by not giving up any goals," said Pinizzotto.

"I thought central defender Cameron Brooks played very well tonight, scoring a goal, winning many balls in the air and very solid in a 1v1 situation.

"Also, midfielder Victor Munoz had a strong game, scoring an important first goal but also working very hard with and without the ball."

Strikers must continue their winning form to keep Oakville from securing the title, and will have their work cut out for them with a very tough match-up on Thursday September 24 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge vs. Sigma F.C. - 9 p.m. kickoff.

Pro Stars will play Vaughan Azzurri at Victoria Park Stadium, Brampton, on Saturday September 26 - 7 p.m. kickoff.
