After their 2-1 loss to Vaughan Azzurri on Wednesday night, league leaders Durham United FC must have been desperate to return to the winning form that has brought them within an agonizing inch of the 2015 League1 Ontario women's title. United need only four points to secure the championship.

It was perhaps no surprise then that the Pickering club made a resounding statement at this matchup in King City with ANB Futbol, keeping a clean sheet and running up six on the home side.

"During stretches of the game, it appeared as though an opportunity would arise for ANB as some chances were created through good build-up play," said ANB head coach, Marcelo Almeida.

"But after Durham secured the fourth goal, those chances were not as often."

Durham's Geneva Winterink (3', 84', 89') wasted no time adding to her impressive goalscoring form of late, getting a hat-trick on the night and opening that account in just the third minute.

Sabrina McNeil (19') and Hollie Babut (24') would ensure the visitors were up 3-0 inside the first half hour, with Victoria McCartney (53') adding to collection to give Durham an impressive 6-0 scoreline by the final whistle. Nora Abolins claimed yet another clean sheet for the victors.

"[It was a] challenge to fight against an older, more experienced squad in Durham with the young ANB players," said Almeida. "Experience at this level means a lot."

"[Winterink] for Durham – scoring three goals - deserves mention," he added. "She was able to clinically finish her opportunities to ensure Durham was able to obtain full points."

But Almeida found room for positives as well, complimenting the work of several of ANB's young charges.

"I thought Michelle Covello (centre MF) and Chelsea Taffo (GK) had good performances in the game," he said. "Both were tested consistently throughout the match and responded above their young years."

"The experience they are obtaining playing against older and stronger players will definitely help them in the future."

"We will continue to build on the possession system we instill at training with the young players," he added. "There is one more game left in the season and we hope a good result will favour ANB on our home ground."

ANB's final home match is also Durham's next fixture, with the Durham side needing only one point to clinch the 2015 League1 Ontario title.

The match takes place on Wednesday September 30 at Country Day School, King City - 7:15 p.m. kickoff.
