MDOC behind desk

League1 Ontario is once again looking for Match Day Operations Coordinators to help provide an outstanding gameday experience for players, coaches, match officials, and fans.

MDOCs have played an integral part in the running of L1ON gamedays, with key responsibilities including assuring standards compliance from the teams and venue, recording statistics, posting on social media, and match reporting, as well as being the main point of contact representing the league on the day.

Communication, self-motivation, and time management are important skills for an MDOC, who in their role, will develop practical experience in events management and sports journalism that will support them attaining industry-related jobs.

Being an MDOC is a part-time role and training will be provided to successful applicants before the season begins. The deadline to apply to join this team is February 23, 2024.

Kyle Pacheco was an MDOC in 2023 and looks back on his time fondly, having been initially attracted to the role by his passion for Canadian soccer.

“My MDOC experience was amazing,” said the 20-year-old. “I developed great interpersonal skills as well as strong time management and organization skills.

“I would recommend the role to others because working as an MDOC allowed me to meet and work with a lot of amazing people who care about Canadian soccer as much as I do. I also got to develop transferrable skills as well as watch the next crop of Canadian soccer talent.”

League Administrator Melissa McKinnon, who works closely with the MDOC group each year, is looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces return in 2024.

“MDOCs have a huge impact in the game experience for everybody involved on the day, and those following online,” she added. “Their dedication to the job has played a huge part in developing the league’s professionalism to date.

“It’s also a group full of likeminded people. Some MDOCs return year after year, while some have taken their new skills to university and other walks of life.

“If anyone has any questions about the role, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can’t wait to meet our next cohort.”
