With several teams able to end the weekend at the top of either division, the 2023 season is hotting up.

Darby player delivers team talk

Darby are in action in our first Men's Premier Division game of the weekend

Pair of games

The weekend kicks off with a pair of League1 Ontario games on Friday night as St Catharines Roma Wolves host Electric City in the Women’s Premier Division, while Darby are up against Master’s FA in the men’s.

St Catharines Roma Wolves and Electric City are both tied on ten points and head into the game sitting three points off a playoff spot, despite being in the bottom half of the table. The Peterborough side won this encounter 6-1 in 2022.

Our Men’s Premier Division match-up provides an opportunity for two teams that are struggling to get back to winning ways. Master’s FA are yet to win in 2023 while Darby have fallen to defeat in their last six.

Only room for one at the top of the table

Sigma and NDC Ontario will be looking to jump to the top of their respective divisions on Saturday.

Fifth-placed Sigma host 14th-placed North Mississauga in one of two Game of the Week ties in the Men’s Premier Division, which fans can watch live on our YouTube channel. Sigma were top of the table earlier in the season and remain the top scorers but have dropped five points in their last four games, and you can predict the result of this weekend’s encounter in our Twitter poll.

Our Game of the Week in the Women’s Premier Division sees NDC Ontario travel to Unionville Milliken, who have lost their last five matches. The reigning champions are yet to drop points this season or concede a goal, and won 4-0 against Darby on Wednesday. You can join other fans in testing your knowledge via our prediction poll, before watching the game live in the stands or on YouTube.

Fleming College is the venue for Electric City’s Men’s Premier Division Pride Match with Hamilton United on Saturday, where 100 per cent of the ticket sales from the game will be donated to Sport a Rainbow, an organisation that encourages inclusivity in sport. Electric City will also be donating money for every goal the team scores throughout June; you can support their Prideraiser by following this link.

Elsewhere Vaughan Azzurri, who are four points off leaders Blue Devils with a game in hand, will look to remain unbeaten in the Men’s Premier Division as they travel to FC London.

Seventh-placed ProStars could find themselves at the summit on Saturday night if they beat Woodbridge Strikers, who have one win in five, and other results go their way. Elsewhere, North Toronto Nitros face bottom side Unionville Milliken.

The Nitros are also in action in the Women’s Premier Division, taking on Guelph Union. Both teams head into the game on the back of a loss, Guelph’s being the more recent after being defeated in midweek by Blue Devils, who are also in action themselves against Darby. The teams are separated by one point in mid-table.

FC London also host Hamilton United. Hamilton have one win to their name this season while FC London are unbeaten in three, including a 4-0 midweek win against Simcoe County Rovers.

FC London would lay down a statement of intent with a second victory this week

All to play for

Alliance United need to beat BVB IA Waterloo in their Women’s Premier Division game to stand a chance of moving to the top of the table. BVB IA Waterloo made an extremely strong start to the campaign but their form has dipped in recent weeks, so a win for them at the Varsity Stadium would be a real statement.

Woodbridge Strikers beat Hamilton 4-0 on Wednesday and would keep pressure on the leading pack with victory over bottom side ProStars, who did pick up their first point of the season in their last game against Waterloo.

In the race for the playoffs, Simcoe County Rovers are up against North Mississauga. The teams sit side by side in the table with North Mississauga ahead by one point, and last season’s encounter ended 1-1.

Burlington are at home to Tecumseh to round off the weekend action, and after two victories on the bounce another win for the Bayhawks would see them close the gap on their matchday rivals to a single point.

Men’s Premier Division leaders Blue Devils travel to BVB IA Waterloo, while we have a second versus third match-up with Scrosoppi visiting Burlington in our other Game of the Week. All three sides have 18 points and have played eight games meaning any could be top of the standings as we head into next week.

Windsor City face a tough test against Simcoe County Rovers, but have proved they can hold their own against playoff contenders by tying with ProStars last time out.

Guelph United are one of three sides who are yet to lose in the men’s division this season; they host St Catharines Roma Wolves.
