Things remain extremely close in the Men’s Premier Division as we go into the weekend, while gaps are forming in the Women’s Premier Division that could make all the difference.

Women’s Premier Division leaders start the weekend

This weekend’s L1O action begins with Women’s Premier Division leaders Vaughan Azzurri visiting Darby. Despite losing to Alliance United last time out in a repeat of last year’s playoff semifinal, the Azzurri can go five points clear of their nearest challengers ahead of their weekend games, while a win would put Darby into the playoff places.

In the Men’s Premier Division we have two Friday night games as North Mississauga host Guelph United and Scrosoppi travel to St Catharines Roma Wolves. Guelph and Scrosoppi will head into their matches as favourites; both picked up 2-0 wins over their opponents in 2022 and are playoff contenders this season.

Super seven

Saturday is full of action with 11 games in total across both divisions, including seven women’s matches starting with Unionville Milliken visiting Electric City. Both sides have struggled to score goals this season but Electric City won this fixture 5-0 in 2022, and another win this time out will see them move into the top half of the table.

Alliance United followed up their 2-1 victory over league leaders Vaughan Azzurri with a dominant display against North Mississauga in midweek. With ProStars struggling this season and at the foot of the table, the hosts have a good opportunity to bag their fourth win in a row.

Tecumseh make the trip to Simcoe County Rovers on Saturday after two back-to-back victories and netting six goals in the process. Simcoe meanwhile put six past Darby last weekend, helped by a Brianne Desa brace and a hat-trick for Courtney Chochol.

Elsewhere, St Catharines Roma Wolves and Hamilton United go head-to-head in the bottom half of the table in our Women's Premier Division Game of the Week. Both sides need the all-important points, and you can predict the outcome on our Twitter page.

Guelph Union have an 11th versus 12th matchup against FC London who will be aiming to leapfrog their hosts in the table. Last year the teams played out an entertaining 3-2 encounter on the final day of the regular season, with FC London coming out on top.

North Mississauga will want to bounce back after their midweek loss to Alliance and face a Burlington side who will have their tails up after putting six past ProStars in their last match and recording their first win of the season.

North Toronto Nitros, who sit second in the standings and have been scoring for fun this season, averaging four goals a game, play Woodbridge Strikers who have displayed a sound defence of their own. Both clubs also had two players feature in May’s Women’s Premier Division Team of the Month.

Woodbridge Strikers and North Toronto Nitros also meet in the Men’s Premier Division. The sides have had similar campaigns so far and sit mid-table. Last season they couldn’t be separated with the game ending 0-0.

Three points for Blue Devils and Electric City would see them jump ahead of division leaders Sigma who aren’t in action until next weekend. Blue Devils visit FC London while Electric City, who maintained a 100 per cent record in May, will need to beat a Simcoe County Rovers side that has shown their own signs of brilliance this season.

Alliance United edged out a close match against Darby last year, and given their respective starts to the season, Alliance will be strong favourites when they meet again this weekend in our live Game of the Week. You can make your own result prediction in our fans' poll.

After losing two of their first three games, can Electric City completely turn the tables and go top?

Playoff hopefuls take to the pitch

It’s extremely tight in the Men’s Premier Division with first and 12th in the table separated by just six points.

ProStars and Burlington both find themselves in playoff positions in the Men’s Premier Division and know dropping points on Sunday will likely see them slip out of the top six, while victories would see them overtake Sigma. They are both on the road to teams struggling in form, with ProStars facing Windsor City and the Bayhawks meeting BVB IA Waterloo.

Reigning champions Vaughan Azzurri also take to the pitch as they host Unionville Milliken. The Azzurri are yet to match their imperious form from last season but do remain unbeaten and have the best defensive record in the league.

The last match of the weekend in the Women’s Premier Division sees Blue Devils take on BVB IA Waterloo who need three points to close the five-point gap between them and fourth in the table.

Vaughan and North Mississauga then round off the gameweek by going head-to-head on Tuesday.
