We have another exciting weekend in L1O with action both on and off the pitch.

Friday’s four

The weekend’s action kicks off with Scrosoppi visiting North Mississauga in the Men’s Premier Division. Scrosoppi have four wins from five and sit four points behind the leaders with a game in hand. The Panthers, meanwhile, will be looking to prove a point having been beaten by their rivals 7-1 when they met in 2022.

Our other match on Friday sees Electric City travel to St Catharines Roma Wolves. Both sides have struggled for goals this season, each scoring six so far, but Electric City find themselves much higher in the table due to their stronger defensive record. A win for the visitors could see them jump significantly closer to the playoff spots.

League tables begin to take shape

There are seven L1O games scheduled for Saturday with mid-table teams in the Women’s Premier Division going head-to-head and vying for places higher up the standings.

Woodbridge Strikers and Electric City are separated by one point and both head into their contest having won their previous games and scored four goals in the process. Blue Devils can move above hosts Tecumseh in the table when the sides meet on Saturday night; again both secured wins last time out.

FC London host St Catharines Roma Wolves, two teams one place apart in the bottom half of the table. London were victorious by a single goal when the sides met in 2022.

In the Men’s Premier Division there are four games taking place, including ProStars versus Burlington which will be shown live on the L1O YouTube channel. The Bayhawks are in impressive form and sit one point behind division leaders Sigma, while ProStars are mid-table having won three games this season and lost two. You can also predict the result of this game in our Twitter poll.

Fifth-placed Alliance United and ninth-placed North Toronto Nitros are currently separated by one point, so wins now could be pivotal in the end-of-the-season battle for playoff place. The Nitros host Darby who, after a strong start to the campaign, have lost four in a row, and Alliance have a trip to winless Master’s FA who they dominated in their 2022 meeting.

Elsewhere, we have a bottom-of-the-table clash between Unionville Milliken and FC London. This game presents a great opportunity for either side to get their first win of 2023.

Fan experiences take centre stage

We’ve got nine games for fans to look forward to on Sunday with additional entertainment to make this weekend one to remember.

In the Men’s Premier Division, Woodbridge Strikers face Vaughan Azzurri in an exciting doubleheader at the York Lions Stadium. For $15 fans can watch the League1 Ontario game followed by York United against Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League.

When Vaughan and Woodbridge met last season, the Azzurri won a seven-goal thriller as 2022 MVP Massimo Ferrin scored a hat-trick for the eventual champions. You can get your tickets to this event here.

The action continues as Hamilton United travel to Simcoe County Rovers where it’s Latin Night at J.C. Massie Field, featuring music from Salsa Beats Barrie and food from The Mexican House, and fans can bring a Latin flag for 50% off tickets or buy in advance.

League leaders Sigma also take to the field on Sunday looking to provide entertainment of their own against fellow high-flyers Blue Devils, who sit just two points off top spot ahead of the clash. BVB IA Waterloo face Guelph United who occupy the last playoff spot as it stands and come into this one having won their last three games. Guelph’s Milan Beader is one to watch though – he scored a brace last time out.

Five Women’s Premier Division matches take place on Sunday with three of the top four in action. Pacesetters Vaughan Azzurri look to continue their winning run against unbeaten Alliance United in arguably the biggest test both sides have faced so far this season.

North Toronto Nitros can move above reigning champions NDC Ontario – who have a bye week – if they can beat Unionville Milliken. It will be a tough test for Unionville who have conceded 12 goals in five games and were beaten by the Nitros in 2022.

BVB IA Waterloo are our other top-four team in action as they host Guelph Union. Darby visit Simcoe County Rovers in a mid-table clash; both sides achieved 1-0 wins in their last matches and are separated by one point.

The Women’s Premier Division bottom two go head-to-head on Sunday with ProStars taking on Burlington. All the other sides in the division have a win to their name and this represents the best chance one of these teams to get a victory on the board.
