BVB IA Waterloo are out to spoil NDC Ontario's Friday-night party

Sides look to remain unbeaten

The weekend kicks off with three games on Friday night – two in the Women’s Premier Division and one in the men’s.

NDC Ontario play their fourth Friday night match of this season as they host fellow high-flyers BVB IA Waterloo; the visitors can move level on points with the champions if they can get a win, albeit a daunting task given that NDC Ontario have had a perfect start to the campaign. Waterloo will hope in-form Abby Kraemer can get on the scoresheet after her hat-trick last time out.

In our other Women’s Premier Division fixture, North Toronto Nitros take on St Catharines Roma Wolves. The Nitros are unbeaten so far this season and currently sit in the top three, while their opponents are looking to make it three wins in a row after putting their early struggles behind them.

Simcoe County Rovers play ProStars in our men’s game on Friday. When the sides met in 2022 it was ProStars who came out on top, but Simcoe County Rovers need the victory tonight if they are to catch up with the top teams having dropped points in their last few matches.

Saturday spotlight

It’s a quieter day on Saturday with only two L1O matches taking place, both in the Men’s Premier Division. FC London travel to Hamilton United looking for their first win of the season after Nick Ferreira rescued a point for them in their last match against Simcoe County Rovers; his goal made it 1-1 in the 90th minute. Hamilton have also had their struggles in 2023, conceding 12 goals in five matches.

Fans can watch this game unfold live on our YouTube channel, and predict the result on our Twitter feed.

North Mississauga face Unionville Milliken in our other clash with both teams sitting towards the bottom of the table. The game finished goalless when the sides met last year.

Leading by example

We end the weekend with the top four teams in the Men’s Premier Division all in action, as well as four games in the women’s division.

Windsor City host table-toppers Sigma who scored four goals in their last game against St Catharines Roma Wolves; Emery Welshman was on the scoresheet once again, notching a brace to take him to seven goals so far this season. The home side put up a strong performance when the teams met last year, coming back from behind twice but eventually losing 3-2.

Burlington face Master’s FA this Sunday and are one of three teams looking to capitalise on any slip-up from the leaders; so too are Blue Devils who could close the weekend at the top of the standing should results fall their way and they secure victory against a Darby side who shared the spoils with Alliance United last time out.

Alliance are also in action and have a tough fixture ahead of them as they host Scrosoppi. Scrosoppi have a game in hand on five teams above them and sit only four points behind the early league leaders.

BVB IA Waterloo and Woodbridge Strikers also face each other in the Men’s Premier Division on Sunday, both heading into the contest having conceded four goals in their last match.

The Strikers also feature in the Women’s Premier Division having accumulated five points after their first four matches – as they also did in 2022. Last season they then went on an eight-game winning streak; can they replicate that kind of form this season? The task starts against Blue Devils this weekend.

Elsewhere, sixth-placed Alliance United will look to close the four-point gap above them when they travel to Simcoe County Rovers. Last year these teams finished one position apart in the top six of the regular-season standings, but so far Simcoe have been off the playoff pace this season.

Two sides looking for their first wins this season are Hamilton United and Burlington; both have struggled in 2023 and three points for either team will go a long way in helping them move away from the bottom of the table.

In action at the same time are Tecumseh and ProStars who both suffered losses last time out. Can they put defeat behind them with the cameras rolling? Watch live on our YouTube channel, and join in our prediction poll before kick-off.

The gameweeks do not finish there with one match in each Premier Division scheduled for Tuesday night.
