An exciting weekend ahead with teams battling it out at the top end of both divisions.

Darby player punches air in warm up

Eyes on Burlington and Darby

Both L1O divisions will be focused on Burlington and Darby on Friday night as their men’s and women’s sides face off. Burlington suffered their first Men’s Premier Division loss of 2023 against Blue Devils last time out and still remain in the top four, while their Week Five opponents sit mid-table following back-to-back defeats.

It’s a different story in the Women’s Premier Division as Darby sit higher in the standings than Burlington, who are looking for their first points of the season. When the sides met last year Darby were comfortable winners with the match ending 4-1.

Our final Friday night fixture sees NDC Ontario travel to Guelph Union; the champions have started this season in fantastic form taking maximum points from their opening four matches without conceding a goal. Guelph Union face a daunting task, but the match was close between the sides in 2022 with NDC Ontario winning 1-0.

Crazy eight

Saturday is once again full of L1O action as eight matches take place across both divisions. In the Men’s Premier Division the day begins with Master’s FA’s trip to Electric City. The hosts will be buoyed by their impressive victory last time out as they beat in-form Sigma through goals from Connor Wilson and Nigel Buckley.

Sigma face St Catharines Roma Wolves in our Men’s Premier Division Game of the Week as both sides look to bounce back after defeats in their last matches – for Roma Wolves to do that they will need to upset the odds against the Men’s Premier Division top scorers. You can vote which way this game will go in our weekly prediction poll.

Elsewhere, Windsor City make the trip to a North Mississauga side searching for their first win of the season while Windsor themselves aim to quickly forget two successive convincing defeats.

Our final Men’s Premier Division fixtures on Saturday see Simcoe County Rovers travel to FC London and Woodbridge Strikers visit Scrosoppi. The Rovers will be favourites in their game; meanwhile Strikers and Scrosoppi could put on a show – it was 4-2 to Woodbridge in this meeting last season.

In the Women’s Premier Division fifth-placed North Mississauga are on the road at Hamilton United. The Panthers have made an undefeated start to the campaign while Hamilton are winless so far.

FC London host Electric City in a mid-table battle and it could be a close match-up with the sides tied on four points each. St Catharines Roma Wolves are also in action as they face Tecumseh, who will be looking for revenge after last season’s 5-0 defeat.

Alliance United women's team huddle

Alliance United host our Women's Premier Division Game of the Week

Division leaders in action

It’s all about the top of the table on Sunday, and there’s a huge game in the Men’s Premier Division between Alliance United and Blue Devils; first and second taking to the field. Both sides have ten points from their opening four fixtures and come into this meeting on the back of 3-0 victories.

Elsewhere, unbeaten Guelph United travel to Unionville Milliken – who they beat in 2022 and who have struggled defensively this season, conceding 13 goals. BVB IA Waterloo host ProStars in our other men’s game on Sunday with the visitors needing a win to keep up with the top end of the table.

Women’s Premier Division leaders North Toronto Nitros travel to last season’s runners-up Alliance United in the Game of the Week. The Nitros have scored five goals or more in every match so far in 2023; Isabella Mazzaferro has seven goals and Elise Bell has five – two players to watch in this game. Alliance United are also unbeaten so far in this campaign, and you can predict who wins this encounter on our Twitter channel.

Vaughan Azzurri are in action as they face Simcoe County Rovers. The Azzurri also have four wins from four in 2023 and were 5-0 victors in this fixture last year.

At the bottom of the table we have a clash between ProStars and Blue Devils. Neither side has scored a point this year and the match ended goalless when they met in the 2022 regular season.

In our final game of the weekend BVB IA Waterloo will look to keep pace with the division leaders while on the road at Unionville Milliken. The visitors have won their last three games with four of their players scoring braces in that run.
