Clubs search for their first win

We’ve got two Men’s Premier Division games on Friday night with three of the four teams involved searching for their first win of the season.

Hamilton United travel to North Mississauga with both sides sitting towards the bottom of the table on one point each. The hosts have struggled for goals so far, finding the back of the net once in their opening three matches.

BVB IA Waterloo are up against St Catharines Roma Wolves who suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Windsor in their last game, having picked up three points against FC London in Week Two.

The Women’s Premier Division match on Friday sees reigning champions NDC Ontario face Simcoe County Rovers in a heavyweight clash that is featured as our Game of the Week on our YouTube channel. Both teams have started the season strongly and Brianne Desa is one to watch after her brace for Simcoe in their last outing in opening week.

An action-packed Saturday

There are nine L1O matches across both divisions on Saturday. Unionville Milliken travel to last season’s Women’s Premier Division runners-up, Alliance United, and Blue Devils face St Catharines Roma Wolves – both aiming for their first three points. Guelph Union also head to Electric City who lost 5-0 to North Toronto Nitros last time out.

Surprise package North Mississauga could continue their impressive start against BVB IA Waterloo by making it four victories from four; it took them 10 games to win three last season. Waterloo also head into this one in good form with two wins last week.

Another side looking to continue their fast start is North Toronto Nitros who have started the new campaign with back-to-back 5-0 wins, often scoring goals early. Tecumseh are their opponents on Saturday; they too have begun 2023 positively and are undefeated in three games.

In the Men’s Premier Division, our two highest-scoring teams meet on Saturday as Simcoe County Rovers make the trip to Sigma. Emery Welshman leads the way in the player scoring charts with five while Jevontae Layne is the dangerman for Simcoe. Expect goals in this one.

Unionville Milliken against ProStars, and FC London versus North Toronto Nitros are also games in the Men’s Premier Division. Fans will be hoping for a repeat of last season’s thriller between ProStars and Unionville, which ended 7-5 with ProStars coming out on top.

As for North Toronto Nitros, their match against FC London gives them a chance to close back up to the playoff positions. Last time out they beat North Mississauga 3-0 – their first win of the season.

Woodbridge Strikers visit Master’s FA in what will be a tough match for the home side. The Strikers have won their last two games while Master’s FA sit at the bottom of the division, and you can predict the result of this encounter on our Twitter page before watching live on our YouTube channel.

Can the champions close the gap?

Vaughan Azzurri have dropped points in two of their three games this Men’s Premier Division season and head to Darby on Sunday in need of a win to keep pace with the teams at the top of the table. Darby have had a promising start of their own and currently sit one point ahead of the Azzurri heading into this one.

Burlington’s start to the new season has caught most people by surprise; they recorded just four wins in 2022 but have started this campaign with three victories on the bounce. Sunday’s match poses a tough test though as they travel to last season’s runners-up, Blue Devils, who have seven points from their first three games. Windsor City also meet Alliance United after both teams scored six last time out.

We end the Women’s Premier Division weekend with three matches. Vaughan Azzurri have made an impressive start to the season with a trio of wins, nine goals scored, and none conceded. They come up on Sunday against Hamilton United who are in search of their first win this season.

The other four teams who play on Sunday are also yet to get wins under their belts. Burlington travel to Woodbridge Strikers who have started the season with two ties; it was a tight game when these sides met in 2022 with Woodbridge coming away with a 1-0 win. Darby then take on ProStars to round off the weekend.

Midweek match-up

The action doesn’t end there for this gameweek with Sigma visiting Electric City on Tuesday night in the Men’s Premier Division.
