Woodbridge Strikers men's players celebrate scoring

Woodbridge Strikers bagged a surprise victory against Simcoe County Rovers

Scrosoppi give Darby first taste of defeat

The weekend began with two games on Friday night as teams in both divisions made the trip to Darby.

In the Men’s Premier Division, Scrosoppi earned their second win of the season by beating their hosts 2-1; the visitors were two up heading into the final third of the match before Jalen Sandoval’s goal made for an edgy ending.

Unionville Milliken ran out 3-1 winners against Darby in the Women’s Premier Division, with Olivia Allen netting a brace and securing the three points.

Another 5-0 win for the Nitros

North Toronto Nitros continued their eye-catching start to the Women’s Premier Division on Saturday with their second successive 5-0 win. Jessie DeBoer netted a brace against Electric City, and the result leaves North Toronto at the top of the division.

Elsewhere, Guelph Union got their first victory of the season as they beat ProStars 3-0 with a trio of second half goals, and Alliance United were 2-0 winners against FC London after netting twice in three second-half minutes.

The Men’s Premier Division saw Blue Devils make it seven points from a possible nine when they took on Master’s FA. A goal from Triston Frankson gave the hosts the lead, overturned by two late goals from Blue Devils’ Samer Hamade.

In our second men’s game on Saturday, Sigma and Unionville Milliken shared the points in a thrilling 2-2 tie; the former had to come from behind twice to rescue a point and maintain their undefeated start to the season.

Burlington lead with perfect record

The Bayhawks soared to the top of the Men’s Premier Division on Sunday, becoming the first side to win three games in a row in 2023 after defeating Electric City. They won the match through a Jace Kotsopoulos brace and are yet to concede a goal this season.

In a surprise result, in-form Simcoe County Rovers suffered a home defeat against Woodbridge Strikers. The hosts had won their first two games of the season and were voted as 75 per cent favourites to be victorious again by fans in the week’s prediction poll, yet winless Woodbridge scored two goals before half-time and another in the 74th minute to secure an unlikely three points with the game finishing 3-1.

In our two other Men’s Premier Division matches on Sunday, it was goals galore as both winners scored six. Windsor City grabbed their first win of the season by beating St Catharines Roma Wolves 6-1, substitute Braden Stevanovic scoring a late hat-trick, and Alliance United netted half a dozen against BVB IA Waterloo to move up the standings.

It was a better day for the Waterloo side in the Women’s Premier Division as they picked up their second win this week, following up their 4-1 win last Wednesday with a 3-1 victory against Burlington; Sophia Cabral netted twice.

North Mississauga and Vaughan Azzurri both continued their perfect starts; the Panthers faced off against Blue Devils and secured a 2-0 win, while the Azzurri also won by two goals against St Catharines Roma Wolves with 2022 star Jotam Chouhan back on the score sheet.

The fourth Women’s Premier Division game on Sunday saw Tecumseh and Woodbridge Strikers play out a 1-1 tie, and both remain unbeaten so far in 2023.
