L1O to launch Women’s Football Subcommittee

Those interested in supporting women’s soccer in Canada can apply to join a group of likeminded people with aspirations to drive the game forward.

Toronto, ON – (February 1, 2023) League1 Ontario is welcoming applications to join the new L1O Women’s Football Subcommittee with the purpose of growing the game in Canada.

The subcommittee will provide strategic initiatives, support, and recommendations to the L1O Board of Directors about all matters relating to the women’s divisions in L1O, optimizing the progress and development of players, coaches, administrators, and clubs.

Members will meet a minimum of four times each year to continually evaluate targets and best practices, being a voice for women’s players and aligning strategy with League1 Canada, provincial team programming, and the national team pathway.

This group is a new initiative to 2023 and will comprise of at least six members, led by the L1O Director of Women’s Football Chelsea Spencer. L1O is looking for a mix of current coaches and players, and independent parties to join the subcommittee and drive the women’s game forward.

Applications to join the subcommittee are welcome by sending a CV to admin@league1.ca. The deadline to submit this application is Tuesday, February 28 at 5PM ET.

Spencer said: “The subcommittee is a really important and exciting initiative. L1O is currently the leading platform for women’s soccer in Canada and we’ve seen many players transition from the Premier Division to professional clubs.

“Members will have the opportunity to not just influence the operations game-to-game, but grow the league on and off the field and enhance the career pathway for players, coaches, referees, and club staff.

“We are looking for members who are driven, forward-thinking, and ultimately have passion to develop women’s soccer in this country and empower the next generation.”
