Down to business

Friday night could see some shifting in the playoff race with Guelph United, ProStars, Alliance United, and Simcoe County Rovers all in action.

Guelph are ranked second in the table and will receive a bye to the playoff semifinals as things stand, but to stay there they will need to secure three points against visitors Darby who won 4-0 against Scrosoppi last week.

ProStars are two points behind Guelph and sit in fourth, the two teams separated by Blue Devils who play on Sunday. Nine of ProStars’ 13 wins this season have come in the last nine games, meaning they are in inspired form for their visit to St Catharines Roma Wolves.

On the cusp on the playoff line, Alliance United are aiming for three points against North Mississauga. It’s a big night for Alliance with the women’s team representing Ontario in the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.

Seventh-placed Simcoe visit a Pickering side that recently enjoyed one of their strongest weeks this season, picking up four points from their last two games. After ties against North Toronto Nitros and Woodbridge Strikers, a win this week is crucial for Simcoe if they are to stand a chance of returning to the top six.

Vaughan Azzurri take to the field on Friday having already clinched their spot in the postseason, so their opponents BVB IA Waterloo will be looking to nick some points off the league leaders to add to their own 2022 total.

Clean canvas

Once all the craziness on Friday night has settled down, Blue Devils and North Toronto Nitros have the opportunity on Sunday to pile on the pressure ahead of the final week.

They currently occupy third and fifth respectively with one point separating them both. Blue Devils take on Unionville Milliken who haven’t picked up points for over a month, and the Nitros visit Burlington who managed two ties last week.

Elsewhere

There are four games this weekend that will not impact the playoffs, but will have repercussions on where each club sits in the promotion-relegation tiers in 2024.

Woodbridge Strikers visit Sigma, who are currently the best team outside of the potential postseason mix, occupying eighth.

FC London could rise off the bottom of the table if they defeat Electric City, but they would also require ninth-placed Hamilton United to beat Master’s FA.

There is one other game on Sunday with Windsor TFC welcoming Scrosoppi.
