Friday night five

Soccer fans are treated to four fixtures from the Men’s Premier Division on Friday night, starting with Scrosoppi hosting Burlington. The teams are only separated by two points and both will be battling hard to move up the table.

Sigma visit North Mississauga in a game that will be important in the Credit River Cup as well as League1 Ontario, and their hosts will be looking to bounce back after their heavy defeat to Hamilton United in their last match.

Elsewhere Pickering face fourth-placed Alliance United, who have only suffered defeat once this season, and St Catharines Roma Wolves host Guelph United who will want to recapture their winning form after two ties in their last two games.

Eighth-placed Alliance United will be aiming to keep Darby’s Molly Steele quiet on Friday in the Women’s Premier Division; she netted twice last time out and will be keen to add to her season tally.

A Saturday upset

There are nine matches taking place in League1 Ontario on Saturday – six in the Women’s Premier Division and three in the Men’s Premier Division. With many in-form sides coming up against those that are struggling, can anyone pull off a shock result?

Unbeaten in their last five, Blue Devils’ women take on Hamilton United who have lost their four on the bounce going into this encounter. North Toronto Nitros have scored six goals in each of their last two games and will come up against a ProStars side looking for their second win of the season.

It could be a close game at sixth-placed Electric City as they host NDC Ontario in the Women’s Premier Division. A win for the home side could see them move ahead of their Saturday opponents.

North Mississauga and Tecumseh will want to get back to winning ways when they face each other off the back of losses, and BVB IA Waterloo take on Pickering’s women in a battle of two teams who could definitely use the three points.

Men’s Premier Division leaders North Toronto Nitros are in action on Saturday as they head to Unionville Milliken, and are aiming for their fourth win on the bounce.

After scoring 16 goals in their last two games, Hamilton United host Electric City’s men on Saturday. The visiting defence will hope that Amir Shirazi and Miles Green have a quieter game - the latter netted half of those 16 goals himself.

Master’s FA also face Darby as they look to get their second win of the season and move off the bottom of the Men’s Premier Division table.

New teams at the top

It’s four games apiece in the Premier Divisions on Sunday, including some important fixtures in the title races.

Women’s Premier Division leaders FC London travel to third-placed Vaughan Azzurri in a match that sees the league’s best attack face the best defence. Later in the afternoon second plays fourth as Woodbridge Strikers visit Simcoe County Rovers. Will we see a new team at the summit after this weekend?

St Catharines Roma Wolves will also take to the field as they play Guelph Union, and Burlington will continue the search for their first win of the campaign against Unionville Milliken.

We could also see a new leader at the top of the Men’s Premier Division on Sunday if Vaughan Azzurri beat FC London and should North Toronto Nitros fail to win on Saturday.

We may even see third-placed Blue Devils surge to the top of the table. They face BVB IA Waterloo and three points would be enough if those ahead of them suffer defeats.

In the other two games on Sunday, Simcoe County Rovers face Windsor TFC before Woodbridge Strikers and ProStars look to beat each other with both teams level on points.
