Pawther's Day

Burlington will look to have tails wagging on Sunday as they host their first Pawther’s Day at Haber Center with their men’s and women’s teams playing back-to-back on Sunday.

Pawther’s Day enables Burlington fans to attend the matchday accompanied by their dogs – on a lead of no more than 6ft long – and take part in a number of pooch-based activities, all to raise money for Fetch and Releash.

Fetch and Release work to save dogs in danger of homelessness, abuse, neglect,  and euthanasia and there will be dogs that are available for adoption at the ground on Sunday. A number of vendors will also be in attendance such as Regal K9, Dogtopia, New York New York, Bosco & Roxy’s and Freedem Dogs.

The first 100 dogs that arrive at the ground will receive a cookie from Bosco & Roxy’s and a custom #pupsatthepitch bandana, and since it's also Father's Day, all dads who attend will receive a shaving lather from Shave Afficianado and New York New York.

Meanwhile on the pitch, Pawther’s Day kicks off with Burlington’s women looking for their first win of the season against a Darby side who scored seven last time out in an empathic victory against ProStars.

It’s a tough task ahead too for Burlington in the Men’s Premier Division as they take on third-placed Blue Devils who are one of only two sides to remain unbeaten so far this season. Yet, the Bayhawks are in decent form having won three of their last four fixtures.

These games will also be streamed on our YouTube channel L1O Live as our selected Games of the Week.

New leaders

We kick off the weekend with three games in the Men’s Premier Division with Vaughan Azzurri attempting to leapfrog North Toronto Nitros to the top of the table. To do so, they’ll need three points against 14th-placed Darby.

Pickering face a Guelph United side looking for a win to keep in touching distance of the leaders, and Electric City take on Scrosoppi with both sides only separated by one point in the table.

There’s only one Women’s Premier Division game on Friday where Guelph Union will look to close their five-point gap on fifth-placed NDC Ontario.

A Saturday dozen

We’ve got 12 League1 Ontario games on Saturday with both the men’s and women’s league leaders in action. FC London’s women take on Electric City, and North Toronto Nitros take on FC London in the Men’s Premier Division.

Elsewhere, it’s a second versus third clash as Vaughan Azzurri women’s team play Simcoe County Rovers. Can the L1O newcomers break down the league’s best defence?

Woodbridge Strikers face Tecumseh’s women – two teams that recorded victories last time out – and Unionville Milliken’s women play Hamilton United, both looking to push away from the bottom end of the table.

In our other two women’s fixtures on Saturday, BVB IA Waterloo are looking to quickly forget about their recent heavy defeats against ProStars and Vaughan by getting a result at North Toronto Nitros, and Blue Devils will be hoping to get their second win of the season as they visit ProStars.

As we turn our attention to the men’s division, Windsor TFC face a tough game against Alliance United, Unionville Milliken will be looking to move ahead of their opponents ProStars. Simcoe County Rovers could go to the top of the division this weekend if results go their way and they get three points against Sigma.

St Catharines Roma Wolves will look to get among the goals as they have struggled to find the back of the net this season, they do however face a BVB IA Waterloo side with a poorer defensive record than them. North Mississauga also face Hamilton United.

Expect goals on Sunday

It’s the men’s top scorers against the leakiest defence on Sunday as Woodbridge Strikers head to Master’s FA. The bottom-side however did record their first win of the season on Wednesday, will this be a turning point for them?

In Sunday’s Women’s Premier Division fixtures, Tecumseh and Woodbridge Strikers have their second games in two days as they play St Catharines Roma Wolves and Pickering respectively, and North Mississauga play Alliance United.
