On Wednesday, June 15, League1 Ontario was made aware of allegations of racial abuse by fan(s) directed at a Simcoe County Rovers player during its Women’s Premier Division match with Electric City Football Club.

In cooperation with the teams, an investigation has been opened to identify those responsible. We will be working to support the player affected while seeking to ensure anyone involved will be held accountable for their actions.

League1 Ontario strongly condemns all forms of racism and discrimination. It has no place in our game or society and will not be tolerated.

As a consequence, the referee stopped the match in the 81st minute and abandoned the game in the 88th minute, with the match tied at 1-1. Per league rules, the League1 Ontario Board of directors will meet to review the circumstances that resulted in the abandonment and will determine if the score at the time of abandonment will stand as the official final score or if the abandoned match will be rescheduled and replayed.
