Party crashers

St Catharines Roma Wolves Premier Division home opener didn’t quite go according to plan as Woodbridge Strikers spoiled the parade with a 4-1 victory, Michael Solomon scoring a late consolation for the hosts.

The Roma Wolves women’s team however won 3-0 at Pickering with Sabrina Bisante bagging two of her side’s three goals. This was after NDC Ontario opened the weekend’s Women’s Premier Division in formidable fashion by putting five past North Mississauga, Kayla Briggs netting a brace in the first half.

The only other unbeaten side left in the women’s league are FC London who extended their perfect record this season to six games, defeating ProStars 3-0. They are now five points clear at the top of the table after Vaughan Azzurri lost their first game of the season to Alliance United.

Hamilton United tied with BVB IA Waterloo and Tecumseh claimed an impressive point against North Toronto Nitros, with Blue Devils edging out Burlington.

Reigning champions Woodbridge Strikers are putting their slow start behind them with three consecutive wins in the league – the latest against Darby to push themselves into the top seven.

If it’s goals you were after…

Sunday’s action in the Women’s Premier League once again served up some high-scoring games, including an eight-goal thriller at Unionville Milliken.

The hosts went 4-0 up against Simcoe County Rovers with Samantha Chang netting twice, and despite the visitors’ rallying efforts led by Cloey Uddenberg in the second half, there was too much to do before the full-time whistle and Unionville ran out 5-3 winners.

Electric City also scored five in their game at Guelph Union but with no reply from the hosts; Holly O’Neill netted her fifth and sixth goals of the season in the first half.

BVB IA Waterloo’s men’s team also managed the same score against Windsor TFC as Jonny Monney found the goal twice and his team’s second win of this campaign. Lucas Raposo scored twice as Burlington won in a six-goal game against FC London.

Jacob Geyer also bagged a brace as his side Hamilton United secured their first three points since the opening weekend by edging out Pickering by the odd goal in five.

Inseparable

Simcoe County Rovers and Vaughan Azzurri battled it out on Sunday as the second and third-placed teams in the Men’s Premier Division on equal points, but they couldn’t be separated and played out a 2-2 tie. Reshon Phillip scored late for Simcoe to keep the score level.

That result allowed Alliance United to leapfrog them both into the runners-up spot in the league standings. They beat Sigma by a solitary goal from Atchuthan Sivananthan – his sixth in five games.

Scrosoppi defeated Unionville Milliken 3-0 on L1O TV and North Mississauga defeated Darby in the other Friday night game before Blue Devils and North Toronto Nitros shared the spoils in their meeting, ending the latter’s 100 per cent record this season. Nitros still have a four-point cushion at the top of the table.

Electric City registered their second win of the season, managed by interim head coach Randy Ribeiro after the club parted ways with Jamie Sherwood last week.

Coming up

The next gameweek begins with five Women’s Premier Division games on Wednesday and some of the league’s table-topping teams in action, ensuring it’s not long to wait until your next fix of L1O.
