2021 League1 Ontario Season: Matchweek 6 Recap

Ending on a Labour Day long weekend, there were 27 matches across Matchweek 6 throughout the five League1 Ontario Divisions in action.

From the Premier Division to the Reserves, here’s how it all played out on both the Men’s and Women’s side of the competition:

Women’s Premier Division Matchweek 6:

FC London remained perfect through five matches played as they beat Tecumseh SC 3-0 on Thursday night at Hellenic Community Centre in London. Jade Kovacevic provided all the offence for the hosts as she picked up a hattrick while Lauren Gellner kept a clean sheet in goal.

Second place Hamilton United further distanced themselves from the pack with a 3-0 win over Blue Devils FC on Friday at Bronte Athletic Park. Mackenna Williamson, Miranda Badovanic and Jennifer Wolever got the goals for Hamilton as they improve to 4-2-0 so far this season.

Little has separated Vaughan Azzurri and Woodbridge SC to date in 2021 and the same applied on Sunday as these two sides played to a 2-2 draw. Kennedi Hermann and Ariana Mouratidis got Woodbridge on the board before Sabrina Fabiano and Kiyani Johnson replied for Vaughan. Both teams sit tied in third place on seven points and hold an identical 0 Goal Differential.

Men’s Premier Division Matchweek 6:

Darby FC and Woodbridge SC kicked off the weekend in Men’s Premier Division play with a  2-2 draw on Friday at Whitby Soccer Centre. Chico Muhtaj and Kashiff DeJonge scored for the hosts while Aziah Reid and Exxose Kadiebue got the Woodbridge goals. Woodbridge earned their first pint of the season with the tie.

Unionville Milliken SC suffered defeat for the first time in 2021 as 1812 FC got the road win in a 2-1 victory at Bill Crothers Turf on Saturday. Johnson Amoo and Markell Saddler found the net for 1812 and Matthias Broomes got on the scoresheet for Unionville.

Masters FA Saints and Vaughan Azzurri played to a thrilling 3-3 draw at L’Amoreaux on Saturday in a match where Masters finished with eight men on the pitch. Francis Ameyaw, Shaquite Agard and Jayden Mekle provided the offense for the Saints while Vaughan scored through Raheem Rose, Jason Mills and Zac Zitoli. The Azzurri are the only East Division team yet to lose so to date.
