Four League1 Ontario players were chosen in the 2021 CPL-U SPORTS Draft Friday.

Ontario Tech’s Chris Campoli (1st round, 4th overall) and Danial Rafisamii (2nd round, 13th overall) of Toronto Skillz were taken by York United, Valour FC drafted former Ottawa South United defender Tony Mikhael (14th overall, 2nd round) and Sigma FC standout Reggie Laryea landed with Atlético Ottawa in the following selection (15th overall, 2nd round).

Campoli, who also suited up for Woodbridge Strikers, and Rafisamii were the first Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Toronto Skillz grads taken in the CPL-U SPORTS Draft, which has been running since 2018.

All draft picks are invited to Canadian Premier League training camp and, if retained by the club, can sign U SPORTS Development Contracts or fully-fledged professional deals, with the former allowing players to keep their university eligibility while playing most of a CPL season.

Three L1O players were drafted in the last CPL-U SPORTS Draft, which took place in 2019: Gabriel Bitar (Carleton University/ OSU Force) by Cavalry FC, Alex Zis (University of Guelph/ Vaughan SC) to Forge FC, and Isaiah Johnston (Cape Breton/ Woodbridge SC) to York United. Johnston wound up signing a full professional contract with York early last year.

Other standout L1O grads who jumped to the CPL through the draft include Dylan Carreiro (Valour FC/Woodbridge SC), Daniel Gogarty (Vaughan Azzurri), Jace Kotsopoulos (Vaughan Azzurri).
