L1O grads make history at CPL’s Island Games opening weekend

Former Woodbrige Strikers forward Lowell Wright made history with York9 FC at the Canadian Premier League Island Games on Prince Edward Island Saturday.

The Brampton, Ont. native, who came on in a second-half change-up, became the league’s youngest-ever goalscorer at age 16 years, 11 months, and 26 days. What’s more, Wright was set up by fellow teenage L1O starlet Max Ferrari in York9’s first match of the 2020 CPL season, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Wright was one of nine L1O graduates featured in Saturday’s York9 FC-Atlético Ottawa match – the first in Ottawa’s history – with York9 players Wright, Ferrari,  Matthew Arnone, Morey Doner, and Joseph Di Chiara joined by Ottawa debutants Jarred Phillips, Malcolm Shaw, Brandon John, and Maksym Kowal.
