In the latest installment in League1 Ontario’s Webinar series, FC London athletic therapist Dr. Michael Robinson (PhD) spoke to L1O coaches, players, and staff about modernized concussion protocols and general injury management.
On the ever-changing science around concussions, Robinson offered tips and tricks for administrators.
“We do not expect anybody to correctly diagnose concussions, what we do expect is basic identification,” Robinson told L1O coaches, showing a series of “red flag” symptoms.
“We used to put people in dark rooms… turns out that causes depression, so we don’t need to do that,” Robinson said. “General rule of thumb: If it doesn’t bother you, don’t do it.”
Robinson also spoke on new science regarding low-level injuries and why coaches should think twice about using ice and anti-inflammatories
