Final weekend sees key matchups to clinch final playoff spot, jostling throughout top positions for seeding

We are heading into Matchweek 13 of the women's division tonight - the final weekend of 2019 regular season play - and there are still several storylines to play out and determine who our playoff participants will be.

Check the graphic below to see where your teams stands going into the weekend, and what tiebreakers are employed to separate teams tied in the regular season standings.

Now, let's take a look at the key match-ups and how things could play out...

Regular season tiebreakers are employed when two teams are tied on points in the table at the conclusion of the regular season period.

1) Smooth Sailing

Oakville Blue Devils (30 pts) and Vaughan SC (28 pts) sit one and two at the top of the table and can't be touched by the teams below them. Both teams will have home field advantage in the quarter-final round of the playoffs against whomever they will ultimately face.

Only one thing can change here - if Oakville lose and Vaughan win in Matchweek 13, the order could be reversed and provide a slightly easier/ more difficult opponent in the quarter-final round.

2) Tough At The Bottom

With only one playoff spot remaining to be taken, there are three teams in the running.

Woodbridge SC currently occupy the eighth and final spot, and with a game in hand on most of the field around them - they have a significantly higher chance of remaining in a playoff spot.

Woodbridge will travel to London on Friday July 26 (German Canadian Club, London - 9:30 p.m.) to play FC London in their penultimate match. If Woodbridge can either a) win or b) draw (while opponents Durham, DeRo and Unionville all lose) or c) lose (while opponents Durham, DeRo and Unionville all lose) - the spot is theirs.

If Woodbridge lose their first match, they will get an opportunity for the points in their second match of the weekend: Sunday July 28 v OSU Force (Vaughan Grove, 1:45 p.m. k.o.)

Durham United FA currently occupy the ninth spot in the table, and will host a local derby on Friday July 26 (Kinsmen Park, Pickering - 8 p.m.) against FC Oshawa in their final match. Durham need to a) win (and have Woodbridge lose or draw in both of their final matches) or b) draw (and have both Woodbridge and De Ro United lose in their final matches).

DeRo United currently occupy the tenth spot in the table, and their destiny is outside their control. They will be watching the two Friday night matches featuring both Woodbridge and Durham United with hopeful eyes.

DeRo will host Hamilton United Elite on Saturday July 27 (L'Amoreaux Sports Centre, Toronto - 5 p.m.) and would need to win this match in any event.

A win would put the team on 18 points and good enough for the final playoff spot IF a) Woodbridge and Durham both draw or lose in final matches or b) if Woodbridge draw both final matches and Durham lose to Oshawa.

3) Mid-Table Movement

With only the top two teams in untouchable positions as a couplet in pole position, every other team in the eight playoff spots must take care in their final weekend of play.

Third through seventh position are all within two points of each other and will be jostling for a top-seeded position in the final weekend of play. Remember - a top four finish ensures a top seed and home pitch advantage in playoffs - and every team currently in the top eight still has some chance at taking a seeded spot.

So who will take care of business?
