Four goals from Leah Pais and a pair of braces led Vaughan Azzurri to a big 10-nil victory over Alliance United FC at Mount Joy, Markham on Sunday afternoon.

Alliance, missing nine of their players that had returned to USPORTS and NCAA teams, were unable to cope with the Azzurri rush from the opening minute until the final whistle.

After quick and intricate build-up play early in the match, Jessie Faber (2') found herself in the box with open space. Using one touch to control, she put the ball between the goalkeeper's legs on her second touch.

Colleen Beesley (11') doubled the lead after she rifled an off-balance half-volley into the corner of the net, making it 2-0 for Vaughan.

Faber (23') scored her brace after taking on the defender and sliding the ball past a diving Stephania Turyk. Vaughan extended their lead to 4-0 after an Alliance defender headed a cross in for an own goal.

After her first shot earlier in the half went wide of the far post, Pais (33') finished her second shot when Faber chipped the defender to create a one-on-one situation for her teammate. Selena Tansella (38') closed the half with a curler to the top corner to make it 6-0 going into the dressing rooms.

Pais (48') continued the scoring spree to start the second half when Turyk came off her line. The Azzurri forward punished the move with a cool chip for her brace.

Beesley (65') earned her brace for the day after she calmly tucked the ball past the diving keeper to make it 8-0.

Pais (72', 79') finished the day with a tap-in and a rocket from distance that hit the underside of the crossbar, finalizing the scoreline at 10-0 for the day.

Vaughan Azzurri (9-2-1) firmly establish themselves in second place with 28 points. Their goal differential sits at +32 (42 GF, 10 GA).

Two points out of first, Vaughan has a shot at the top of the table if they win their final regular season fixture and first place side, Oakville Blue Devils, drop points in their final match.

Vaughan will next play Aurora FC on July 28 (4 p.m.) at North Maple Regional Park Turf #1, Vaughan.

Despite the big loss, Alliance United FC (6-4-2) still hold a playoff spot. Currently in fifth place with 20 points, Alliance are tied on points with OSU Force but the Ottawa side take the tiebreaker due to the head-to-head record. With the defeate, Alliance's goal differential drops to -5 (18 GF, 23 GA).

Alliance United will next play FC London on July 28 (2 p.m.) at German Canadian Club Stadium, London.
