A late comeback effort from Hamilton wasn't enough to topple Vaughan SC from top spot in the women's division on Matchweek 6, while Kennedi Herrmann and Alyscha Blair were on target to take Woodbridge Strikers over Unionville Milliken.

In the east-end, defending champions' Durham United FA went toe-to-toe with Aurora FC in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

On the strength of a two goal performance by forward Jessie Faber, Vaughan Azzurri continued their torrid start to the 2019 season, defeating a tenacious Hamilton United side by a score of 4-2 at McNaughton Park in Maple on Sunday afternoon.

Vaughan controlled most of the play in the opening 45 minutes, and went into half-time feeling comfortable thanks to Faber's (6', 23') brace. She now has five goals on the season.

The halftime break did not impact the home side's momentum in the slightest as Colleen Beesley (49') quickly extended their lead to three goals as she poked home her first goal of the season.

To their credit, Hamilton never quit pressing to get back in the match and had a breakthrough when Mia Palango's (56') header found the back of the net to make it 3 1.

With their spirits lifted thanks to that goal, the visitors began to press aggressively but Vaughan used their potent counter attack to put the match to bed as Kiyani Johnson (66') scored her sixth goal of the year and restored the three goal advantage.

Hamilton United captain Angela Cutaia (88') did pull one back in the dying minutes to make it 4-2 but the visitors could not get closer.

With the win, Vaughan remain undefeated on the season, with 16 points from six matches.

Hamilton drop to a record of 1 win, 4 losses and 1 tie for 4 points.

Vaughan SC will next play Woodbridge Strikers on June 16 (2 p.m.) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Hamilton United Elite will next play Alliance United FC on June 16 (6 p.m.) at Mt. Joy, Markham.

Woodbridge Strikers got back to winning ways in Matchweek 6 after a 2-0 result over visitors' Unionville Milliken.

Unionville kicked off the match strong by pressing high in Woodbridge's final third, while the Strikers played on the counter, which resulted in the opening goal of the match.

Woodbridge's Kennedi Herrmann (9') weaved her way through Unionville's last standing defender to take the team's first shot of the match and open the scoring.

Herrmann would keep Unionville's defensive line on their toes as she came close to converting two more goals before the half.

Unionville would play the ball into Woodbridge's attacking third but struggled to create chances, their first shot on goal coming in the 25th minute of the match, which was easily handled by Woodbridge's Jivraj.

Woodbridge's Alysha Blair (44') doubled her side's goal column after a one-on-one against Unionville's keeper. Blair rolled the ball over to her left foot, getting past the keeper and slotting into the back of the net.

Unionville came out stronger into the second half but Woodbridge's backline wouldn't let a ball get past them. The Strikers played to their goal advantage by attempting to slow the tempo of the match and build from the back.

In the 71st minute, Unionville's Natasha Klasios created one of her side's best goal scoring chances. Unionville fought until the full-time whistle, forcing Woodbridge's Jivraj to make a crucial save in the closing minutes to maintain her clean sheet.

Woodbridge Strikers improve their record to 3W - 1T - 2L.

The Strikers will next play Vaughan Azzurri on June 16 (2:00 p.m.) at McNaughton Field, Vaughan.

Unionville Milliken SC's current record is 3T - 2L.

Unionville will next play FC Oshawa on June 16 (1:00 p.m.) at L'Amoreaux, Toronto.

Durham United FA (DUFA) drew Aurora United FC 2-2 in a competitive Sunday afternoon women's match in Matchweek 6.

Aurora came out strong in the opening minutes and earned themselves a penalty. Bejleri (10') would comfortably convert the penalty kick to give her team the early lead.

Durham would control the game with brilliant play with the help of standout performances from midfielders' Babut and Mitchell.

Despite the pressure from Durham, Aurora would find to way to get on the score-sheet again via a beautifully placed left-footed strike from Murphy (21') to increase the lead to two.

Durham would cut the lead in half when a terrific Babut cross was parried by the keeper straight into the feet of Castellano (33'), who scored easily.

DUFA would equalize when a thumping header from Mitchell (54') soared over the Aurora keeper.

Durham continued to apply pressure on Aurora but the visitors did well to contain the attacks and the game would finish 2-2.

Durham United FA will next play DeRo United FC on June 15 (4:30 p.m.) at L'Amoreaux Sports Facility, Toronto.

Aurora United FC will next play North Mississauga SC at Stewart Burnett Park, Aurora on June 15 (7 p.m.).
