Darby FC hosted Woodbridge Strikers at the Whitby Soccer Centre on Friday and toppled the 2018 League1 Finalists 2-1 after a determined display.

Darby's Hipkin (31') opened the scoring with a powerful shot from just inside the 18 yard-box into the far-right corner of the net.

With Woodbridge desperately trying to get to get the first goal back, tensions were high. In the 33rd minute Darby got their first caution of the game, Cooke receiving the card following a push from behind.

In the 41st minute, Darby player, Barton, took on the Woodbridge GK Jivraj one v one, her shot bouncing off the post and into the keeper's arms. In the same minute, Darby got another yellow.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Barton (48') scored Darby's second goal of the game, getting in alone again and making no mistake this time, driving her shot into the far left corner.

Woodbridge scored their first and only goal of the game as Simpson (58') finished a
penalty into the top left corner.

Darby FC will next play North Mississauga SC on Friday June 7 (7:45 p.m.) at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Mississauga.

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Unionville Milliken SC on Sunday June 9 (1:45 p.m.) at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge.
