Alliance United secured all three points with a 2-1 home victory over Darby FC, thanks to a calm finish inside the box by Emily Andrus in the second half (59’).

Headers from Alliance’s Brough (17’) and Darby’s Arruda (44’) meant both sides got a taste of goal in the first half, but it was the home side who found the crucial go-ahead goal.

Alliance chose to press high in the early minutes, recognizing the opportunity to punish Darby FC’s attempts to play out of the back.

Andrus had a decent chance in the first five minutes, but it was dealt with well by Darby’s Arruda.

Most of Alliance’s attacks were created down the right flank, with Andrus and Reynolds heavily involved.

The hosts found the breakthrough after just 17 minutes into the game, as Melissa Lamanna put in an excellent corner kick which was converted by Sydney Brough.

Darby managed to gain some composure after the first twenty minutes, aided by Alliance's decision not to press as high up the pitch.

When they were unable to find a penetrative pass through the middle, Darby opted to start putting in crosses. The away side equalized just a minute before the end of the half after Olivia Cooke’s cross from the right wing was met perfectly by Arruda.

Alliance United picked up the tempo again in the second half, still favouring the right side in most of their build-up play.

Darby's Wilson and Arruda were kept particularly busy with their defensive duties. Alliance retook the lead just before the hour mark after Andrus was played through on goal and calmly dispatched her shot into the bottom left corner.

The hosts were not troubled for the remainder of the game, and actually created the greater number of chances in the final half-hour.

Darby FC will play next on May 31 when they host Woodbridge Strikers at Whitby Soccer Centre at 8 p.m.

Alliance United will next play on June 1, when they travel to Stewart Burnett Park on to face Aurora FC at 7 p.m.
