Vaughan Azzurri and Unionville-Milliken SC couldn't get the result they wanted in the second women’s match of match week three.

Both sides’ backlines played a big factor in this match ending 0-0.

Vaughan Azzurri had two good opportunities on goal within the first 30 minutes of play to get on the scoreboard first, but both attempts just missed the target.

The coaching staff for both teams were busy during halftime, resulting in changes to their starting lineups to try and get that leading goal of the match.

Vaughan’s Leah Pais broke through the middle of Unionville’s defence in the 61st minute to force a 1v1 chance, but keeper Marissa Zucchetto challenged the attempt and denied Vaughan another chance at the lead.

Unionville’s Natasha Klasios had the best chance for her side, finding some open space in the middle of the field but just shot it wide of goal.

Vaughan’s Katrina Haarmann and Unionville’s Zucchetto had standout performances, as they denied numerous chances on goal to earn their first shutout’s of the season.

Vaughan Azzurri’s next match will be against Oakville Blue Devils on Sunday May, 26 (4 p.m) at the Sheridan Trafalgar Campus.

Unionville Milliken S.C’s next match will be against DeRo United FA on Saturday May, 25 (4:30 p.m) at LAmoreaux.

Aurora FC came into this match looking to put their first points on the board after losing their opening two matches of the season against OSU Force and DeRo United. Hamilton was looking to bounce back from their loss at home to Oshawa and return to winning ways.

Hamilton was down three goals with the only 25 minutes remaining in the match, when they kick-started their comeback.

Goals from Claudio D’Angelo (65’), Alexandra Hebert (69’), and Mia Palango (87’) were enough for their side to steal a point from Aurora.

The battle between these two teams started right from kickoff with strong challenges coming from both teams. The first real opportunity to score came in the 10th minute from Aurora’s Samantha Murphy, as she took a hard shot just inside the near post forcing a great save from the Hamilton goalkeeper Alana Rossi.

Aurora’s Markela Beljeri (19’) started it off her side after Hamilton committed a foul just outside the penalty area to the right of the goal. Beljeri made no mistake on her free-kick putting the ball in the upper right corner of the goal.

Teammate Courtney Chochol (41’,57’) pulled off a star performance herself, as she managed to be a thorn in Hamilton’s side numerous times in the match.

Chochol’s first of the match came on the end of a beautiful cross from Murphy, as she headed home a left-sided cross from the penalty area.

The second half saw Aurora’s back-line tested by Hamilton, first shown in the 49th minute when Gabriella Carboni found herself near the right side of the goal line. She attempted to play the ball across the face of the goal but a great tackle was made by Aurora’s Laura Marrelli to block any scoring opportunity.

Eight minutes after Chochol scored her second of the game from the penalty mark, Hamilton struck back through as a corner kick from D’Angelo ended up in the back of the Aurora goal.

Hamilton’s Hebert scored four minutes later after a shot from a fellow teammate was denied by Aurora’s Meghan Phillips, which resulted in Hebert pouncing on the rebound and striking the ball into the back of the net.

Late in the game, with Hamilton gunning to rescue at least one point from the match, they were taking any opportunity that they saw.

As Hamilton was awarded a corner late in the match, a header was saved by a quick reaction from Aurora’s Rossi. But a rebounded effort from Hamilton’s Palango found herself on the end of tying goal to take a point away from the home side.

Hamilton United Elite play their next game at home at Ron Joyce Stadium against the travelling Woodbridge Strikers. The game is set to take place on May 24, at 8 p.m.

Aurora FC host FC Oshawa next at Stewart Burnett Park on June 1, at 7 p.m.

The Oakville Blue Devils came to FC Oshawa’s Civic Field and took home the win with a score of 2-0.

Goals from Mahira Ali (25’) and Olivia Di Christofaro (89’) were enough for Oakville to remain atop of the women’s leaderboard after match week three.

Ali’s powerful low shot from outside the 18-yard box found the inside the bottom right corner to as she’s now scored in back-to-back games.

The rest of the first half saw the Blue Devils keeping control of the ball, leaving FC Oshawa with few opportunities.

FC Oshawa showed a little more grit coming out of the halftime. The home side was able to regain control of the ball more and create several opportunities for their attacking line.

But the Blue Devil’s backline, which has only given up two goals in three games, had another strong performance.

Most of the second half was played very central, with neither team able to get a ball through to the net.

Although, Oakville’s Di Christofaro changed that before the final whistle, as she took on the Oshawa keeper 1v1 and placed the ball just out of her reach on the right side to finish the game with a score of 2-0.

FC Oshawa will play again next on Saturday May 25, 2019 against Aurora FC. The game will be taking place at Stewart Burnett Park at 7 p.m.

Oakville Blue Devils will have their next game on Sunday May 26, 2019 against Vaughan Azzurri. The game will be held at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus at 4 p.m.

DeRo United record their third straight victory after defeating North Mississauga 2-1 thanks to goals from Olivia Bizzoni (5’) and Jasmine Vilgrain’s penalty kick in the 64th minute.

DeRo United started the match off very well with a goal in the 5th minute after a lovely strike from outside of the box from their captain Bizzoni found its way into the back of the net.

DeRo would continue to assert their dominance in the opening minutes of the game maintaining possession well and creating chances on goal.

Around the 20th minute mark, North Mississauga started to grow into the game gaining slight momentum with balls into the box and an increased amount of possession as they tried to level things up in the first half.

Chantelle Parker of DeRo was very effective at playing on the shoulder of the North Mississauga defenders, ready to run in behind and exploit the space when the opportunity presented itself.

North Mississauga managed to level it in the 43rd minute after a good piece of build up found Luba Sulypka inside the box and in a good position to put the ball in the back of the net for her first of 2019.

The first good chance of the second half came to North Mississauga’s Shyanne Reid who’s powerful shot from inside of the box just skimmed the crossbar and sent danger signs across DeRo’s backline.

However, after a good passing move in their final third, Parker went down in the box and DeRo were awarded a penalty, which Vilgrain put in with ease.

North Mississauga tried to get back level but just didn’t have that final ball or that final touch while DeRo showed experience and intelligence by slowing things down and doing the most to see this game out; a sign of a top team.

DeRo United go on to record another three points to continue their excellent run of form in their opening three games of the season, while North Mississauga suffered their third straight loss of the campaign.

North Mississauga will be involved in mid-week action on Wednesday, May 22 against Durham United at 8 p.m at Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

DeRo look to continue their winning streak against Unionville-Milliken SC on Saturday, May 25 at L’Amoreaux with kick-off set at 4:30 p.m.
