Alliance United FC women held off the endless attacking pressure by Woodbridge Strikers to secure three points on the road and an historic first League1 win.

An early goal by Alliance United FC’s Katrina Giantsopoulos (37') was the difference in a match that was otherwise heavily dominated the Woodbridge Strikers' attack.

The Strikers dominated possession of the ball but were unable to capitalize on their chances.

Alliance got on the board when midfielder Giantsopoulos chipped the ball over the Strikers' goalkeeper’s head from the edge of the 18-yard box.

The Strikers responded with a tactical change, moving centreback Diamond Simpson up to an attacking midfielder position. Simpson made an immediate impact with her eye for goal, making runs and facilitating passes deep in Alliance's half.

Alliance keeper, Stephania Turyk, was a difference-maker with key saves on numerous attempts on goal. Her biggest save came just before half when forward Lauren Hart dribbled inside the box and took a direct shot on net. Turyk was able to stand tall and make the save with her right arm to close the half.

The rest of the game saw Woodbridge dominate possession, creating numerous chances on goal, the best coming in the 82nd minute when Simpson stepped around Turyk but just placed it wide.

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Durham United FA on May 19 (1 p.m.) at Pickering Soccer Centre, Pickering.

Alliance United FC will next play OSU Force on May 19 (5 p.m.) at Mount Joy Turf, Markham.

Roselyn Kyeame (57') floated a knuckle-ball into the top corner to lead the Oakville Blue Devils to a 2-1 victory over Durham United FA on Sunday.

Mahira Ali, driving in from the left wing, cut a pass back to the midfield, just outside the top of the box. With the wind gusting against her, Kyeame's long shot drifted into the breeze and into the net for the goal, her third in two games.

Kyeame's winning goal gave Oakville their second win of the season, this time over the reigning League1 Ontario Women's Division Champion.

Durham United opened the scoring early in the game. Maddie Iozzi hit a free kick from the corner of the box only to be tipped away by Oakville's Rachel Yerxa. After a scramble in front of the goal line, Diarra Simmons (7') tapped the spilled rebound home to make it 1-0 for the away side.

Ali (12') equalized the game when she found herself with open space on the right wing with only a defender in the way. After a few step-overs, the winger launched a low shot into the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

Durham had the chance to take the lead from the spot after they drew a penalty for a foul in the box. Farkhunda Muhtaj stepped up for the shot, but Yerxa dove to make the save, keeping the score level.

Oakville came close to taking the lead in the 26th minute when Ali danced her way around the box to open up space for a chance. Her cross skidded across the face of the net, but nobody was able to finish the chance.

In the second half, a Durham defender tripped Ali in the box, and Oakville were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute. Ali stepped up to take the shot, but it goes wide to the goalkeeper'ss right.

The Blue Devils kept the attacking pressure going four minutes later when Kyeame hit a pass to send Ali free on a breakaway, but the shot was just off target once again.

Blue Devils substitute Justine Rodrigues fired a shot on target after entering the game for less than a minute, but Durham keeper Danitza Indacochea parried away.

Oakville held on for the win, leaving Durham United FA without a shot in the second half as the game came to a close.

Durham will next play Woodbridge Strikers at the Pickering Soccer Centre, Durham on Sunday, May 19 (1 p.m.).

Oakville Blue Devils will next play FC Oshawa at the Civic Stadium, Oshawa on May 18 (7 p.m.).

Vaughan Azzurri women were able to put two goals away before the end of the first half and win 5-2 at the Whitby Soccer Centre on Sunday.

Kiyani Johnson (37') got Vaughan's first goal of the game, receiving a great pass just inside the 6-yard box and placing it into the bottom right corner. The second goal had a similar setup, Claudia Peralta (43') taking a ball just inside the 18-yard box and putting the shot inside the bottom right corner.

In the second half, Darby came out stronger than the first, keeping possession and pressure in Vaughan's end. With that, Darby got their first goal of the game, scored by Lauryn Arruda (72'). Arruda ran the ball through the defensive line herself and placed the ball just underneath the crossbar.

Vaughan came back just two minutes later with their third goal of the game scored by Kiyani Johnson (74'). Johnson had a nice re-direction into the bottom left corner of the net.

Vaughan quickly got their fourth goal of the game, securing the result. Jessie Faber (77') tipped the ball just over top of the keeper's reach to make the score 4-1.

Darby's consolation goal was scored by Lauryn Arruda (79'), who beat her player on a one v one before finishing inside the left post. The final goal was scored in the 84 th minute by Vaughan player Nicole Lovisotto (84'). Lovisotto broke in alone on the Darby goalie and was able to beat her and put it in the back of the net.

Darby FC will next play FC London on May 17 (8 p.m.) at the Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Unionville Milliken SC on May 18 (noon) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

DeRo United maintained a good start to the League1 Ontario season with a commanding 4-0 win over Aurora FC in the Matchweek 3 Sunday finale.

Chelsea Cheung scored a second-half brace for the hosts as Megan McKye and Jasmine Vilgrain also contributed to the victory with goals on a rain-soaked night at L'Amoreaux Sport Facility, Scarborough.

DeRo opened the scoring with McKye (27'), who finished with a beautiful lob from the left of the box. Defender Nicola Golen, however, also deserved some of the plaudits for her contribution, as she single-handedly started the attack, winning the ball near her box and dribbling the ball from the left to the other end of the pitch, before delivering the assist.

The game was a tighter affair than the score-line suggested for much of the game and Aurora FC was left ruing their luck, after hitting the bar twice in the first half.

Julia Ruffolo hit the upright in a corner very early in the game and Soumaya Bouak’s beautiful lob was denied by the goalkeeper before hitting the post towards the interval.

However, DeRo put the game beyond reach with a penalty they won right after the break; Cheung (47') made no mistake from the spot.

Vilgrain scored another beauty from way outside the box into the top right of the goal and Cheung completed the rout on the scoresheet with a tap-in following a mishandling of a cross by goalkeeper Meaghan Phillips.

DeRo will next play North Mississauga SC at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Mississauga on May 18 (8:30 p.m.).

Aurora FC will next play Hamilton United Elite at Stewart Burnett, Aurora on May 18 (7 p.m.).
