In the final League1 Ontario match of the 2017 season, Aurora FC women and Sanjaxx Lions settled for a 1-1 draw after Aurora's Ellie Hayes (25') and Sanjaxx's Julia Wong (53') scored one apiece.

"I thought it was a pretty even game between two of the younger teams in the league so from our standpoint it is good to finish off the season on a positive note," said Sanjaxx head coach, Laza Lowe. "We are looking forward to next year already."

"I just look at the quality of how we play, are we getting better, and are the young players grasping what is going on in the league and are willing to step up and meet the challenge," he added.

"It wasn't a bad season playing-wise, but points-wise yes - we don't often get the result - but my thoughts are that the team is getting better overall."

Aurora team official Samiac Kavianpour  wasn't overly impressed with his team's performance on the day, but looking at the season from a long-term perspective he felt there had been good progress.

"We couldn't connect in the last third today," he said. "The connection between the midfielder and forwards was a problem. From our side there was a lack of urgency. We were one step behind and that created problems. The speed of play was not there either. I would like to congratulate the other team because they moved the ball well and they used their chances. This would a good challenge for us."

"Most of these kids will be in our high performance programs going forward and they will be moving into a new phase to conclude in January and February and from there we will form for the 2018 season," he added.

Sanjaxx Lions finish their season in tenth position in the women's division, with eight points and a record of two wins, 16 losses and two draws. The team was eleventh for goals for (11), tenth for goals against (61) and tenth in goal difference (-50).

Aurora FC finish their season in seventh position in the east division, with 29 points and a record of nine wins, nine losses and two draws. The team was eighth for goals for (25), sixth for goals against (37) and ninth in goal difference (-12).
