Toronto Azzurri Blizzard beat Darby FC 3-0 after goals from Rebecca Bartosh (35'), Taijah Fraser (82') and Keira Kent (90'), finishing their 2017 campaign in ninth position on 22 points.

"We are trying to develop some youth by putting them in the fire and they will take that back to games at their age group," said Blizzard team official, Ernest Ellis.

"Once they have experienced the fierce competition at this level they will understand the demands."

"Today we just wanted to work on keeping the ball. I don't see the point of winning the ball and then booting it back to the other team. The game can be very simple, just keep the ball through good passing and a lot of movement and you can build from there."

Darby team official Stuart Robertson felt his side should have got more out of the match, but reflected on his side's season and found several positives.

"The first half I thought we played very well and just didn't take our chances," he said. "I think we had the best chance of the half. They ended up scoring and then obviously at the end of the game we had some issue finishing it out and gave up two late goals."

"I think that has been the story for most of the year. We have to be better going forward in our last game and certainly next year as well. We need to be more mature in the dying minutes of games."

"But both clubs, Whitby and Darlington, have had the ability to play many young players at this level this season, so we have established a clear pathway and a great opportunity for the young women in both clubs," he concluded.

Darby FC will next play FC London on October 6 at Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.
