Sienna Nanji (30') and Maggie Sarmiento (78') gave Sanjaxx Lions a comfortable pad going into the final ten minutes of their match against Darby FC on Matchweek 22, and despite a late goal by Darby's Dalia Hrywnak (88') the Lions held on for a 2-1 result.

"We are using some of our younger girls and trying to get them some exposure and experience," said Sanjaxx assistant coach, Devon Porter.

"This is where we are building them from for next year and you can see there are some good qualities from them. We just have to ask them to do the right things, the simple things, and they will be alright."

Darby head coach Mirco Schroff was disappointed in the result, not least due to the number of attacking moves his side created throughout the match.

"I think it was a pity today because despite the conditions and the heat I thought we created six or seven good chances," he said. "Especially in the first half, I thought we had three or four really good chances. That was certainly something to regret today because we lost the game 2-1 and it could have been a different outcome."

A dominant figure throughout the match, Sanjaxx's Sienna Nanji scored the opener, set up the second Lions' goal, and was a key piece in the Sanjaxx win.

"She is a quality player," said Porter. "She is a former varsity player and a little bit older than the other girls so she brings a bit of experience. She tends to use the ball correctly and it pays off for her."

Sanjaxx Lions will next play Aurora FC on October 8 at Monarch Park, Toronto.

Darby FC will next play Toronto Azzurri Blizzard on September 29 at Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.
