A single goal from Aurora's Courtney Chocol (45'), and a shared clean sheet from keepers Meaghan Phillips and Joanna Redlich, ensured a 1-0 victory over visitors Toronto Azzurri Blizzard.

"It was a very good game on our side," said Aurora team official, John Yacou. "The girls stuck to the plan. We recognized it was going to be tough conditions to play in considering the weather, but they stayed very disciplined and just before half we got the break that we looked for. That break impacted the plan for the second half because we planned to go into the second half more as an aggressive team, looking to press, but the goal that came late changed everything."

"Our plan instead became to sit back and try and control the game a little more, knowing that Toronto Blizzard was going to be the team coming forward and trying to get the equalizer."

Azzurri team official Earnest Ellis wasn't happy with the way his side started the match, and general work-rate in the very humid conditions.

"In the first half our workrate just was not there," he said. "In the second half we made some adjustments and the workrate improved. I noticed in the first half we weren't really moving as a team, so that affected our possession, but second half we started moving and showing better."

"Being down a goal meant we had to come from behind and turn up the work-rate," he added.

"We also tried to keep the ball and make the other team work to get the ball back, and in doing this we hoped to use the hot weather to our advantage by tiring them out."

Aurora FC will next play Vaughan Azzurri on September 24 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Toronto Azzurri Blizzard will next play North Mississauga SC on September 24 at Azzurri Village Main, Toronto.
