Courtney Chocol (73') made the difference for Aurora FC with a lone goal late in the contest with West Ottawa SC on Matchweek 18

A clean sheet from Meaghan Phillips ensured the points would go back to Aurora on a day when both teams fielded their junior sides that will take them through to the end of the season.

"This group is basically the number one team in OPDL, for the second year running," said Aurora team official Siamac Kavianpour.

"We had two 2002s in the team, our centre-back and our striker, who scored a goal, and we have a couple national team players in the team and at least 13 or 14 provincial players. We have a good group and we are trying to improve our program every day."

"We had a lot of call-ups today, as I'm sure the other team did as well, so the challenge was to get the girls working together in their units and try and keep the play ahead of us defensively and create opportunities offensively," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"I thought we adjusted a little bit in the second half and created some chances with the diagonal ball over the top, which I thought was on in the first half but we just need to be a little more creative, deceptive and less mechanical in our play."

"We just are going to have a little bit more of a look at our young players coming through, because that is what this program is about," she added.

"It is about developing our young players and completing a pathway for them, and hopefully getting a result if we can."

Aurora's Kavianpour was happy with the quick development of one player in particular, goalscorer Courtney Chocol, whose finish marked her third goal in only two matches played.

"We had an aggressive run by our striker Courtney, and she made three or four runs like that tonight, which was a big reason we got the result," he confirmed.

"But you have to give credit to West Ottawa, they did very well."

West Ottawa SC will next play Toronto Azzurri Blizzard on August 8 at Beckwith Park, Ottawa.

Aurora FC will next play Durham United FA on September 9 at St. Maximillion Kolbe HS, Aurora.
