Taijah Henderson (12') and Nicole Campbell (90') scored at both ends of the match for Unionville Milliken SC, but it was Vaughan Azzurri that would emerge victorious from this Matchweek 17 women's division clash after three goals in 14 minutes from Colleen Beesley (42'), Sarah Wong (53') and Olivia Lukasewich (56').

"Basically I thought we started off a little bit slow, but as the game progressed the team grew in confidence and were able to play better as a group," said Vaughan team official, Tony De Palma.

"In the second half, coach Carmine [Isacco] asked them to play in a diamond shape 4-4-2 and we got some lucky breaks and scored. I thought we played very well overall and we had grit."

Unionville had their goalscorer Henderson dismissed just over half an hour into the match, as was Vaughan centre-back Claudia Piazza. Unionville head coach Bill Markos identified this moment, and one other, as a crucial turning point.

"There were two different games out there for us," he said.

"The first half we played well and I think we controlled the game. We were getting behind their back-line and we had created some opportunities. With some unfortunate circumstances, the second half was a completely different game for us."

"A mishap in the first half led to a red card for their centre-back and our striker and it kind-of hurt us. Our striker was pretty productive against their back-line and it was a tough one."

"In the second half we went to a 4-1-3-1," he added.

"We wanted to stay tight in the middle when we didn't have the ball, stay tight and compact and make them come down the wings, and the minute we won the ball we wanted to get ourselves up high and wide. We tried to do that but the penalty that was given put them up 2-1 and changed the flow of the game. We came back with a goal to make it 3-2, when the delivery of the corner kick was phenomenal, and the finish was fantastic, but the penalty changed it all in the end."

"Those two incidents - the dismissal and the penalty - they really kind of hurt us."
