Julia Wong (68') got her second goal in as many matches to give Sanjaxx Lions a lead over Unionville Milliken in Matchweek 17, but Tyra Gordon (85') got a late equalizer to claim a crucial point for a Unionville side that is still chasing the championship.

"I think it's another late season makeshift side, and it took us a minute to get rolling," said Unionville assistant coach, Glenn Faulknor.

"We did what we had to do and I think a tie was fair."

Sanjaxx were on the front foot for much of the match, creating numerous attacking chances.

"We came here to play," said Sanjaxx head coach, Devon Porter.

"We have a principle, once the players come here with a good mindset, they will play good football. I'm not ashamed to say the girls played very well today."

"We should have won this game, but the ball is round and if you make simple mistakes it is going to hurt you.

"All in all, this Unionville team is not a bad team. However I think that if we took our chances, all the chances that we got, we should have easily won this game 5-1. But credit to them, they stuck to their task and they came back and scored a goal from the goalkeeper's error. This is football though, and we have to fight through it."

In pursuit of the win, Sanjaxx made several adjustments to probe the Unionville defence and find a breakthrough for the win.

"We made tactical substitutions," explained Porter.

"We had two players in there that I knew were hurting and I moved some players around because I know their strengths and where they can help this team."

"I took a wingback out and put a central midfielder in because I know this is a strong player, and I took a central player and put them on the wing. It paid off. What can I say, we have a good system here and these are young players, fifteen and sixteen years old. We can only get better from here."

Sanjaxx Lions will next play West Ottawa SC on August 20 at Monarch Park, Toronto.

Unionville Milliken SC will next play Vaughan Azzurri on August 20 at St. Joan of Arc, Vaughan.
