Jade Kovacevic (15', 58', 84', 90') was once again the story of the match as she scored four goals en route to a 6-2 smashing of Vaughan Azzurri at German Canadian Club in London on Wednesday night.

"Obviously dealing with Jade isn't easy and she deserves to be in the national program," said Vaughan Azzurri head coach, Carmine Isacco.

"She definitely deserves the opportunity, and she is a difference maker. The team that was around her was solid today, but she made the difference."

"I really appreciate [Carmine] saying that," said FC London head coach, Mike Marcoccia. "I feel like a broken record, I have said it so many times in interviews etc."

"I just hope this kid gets a chance. Every single coach in this entire league has said something similar to me. I hope she gets a chance. It's not only what she does on the pitch, but what she is doing behind the scenes to be ready for it that is incredible."

"I really hope she gets an opportunity for the next level and/ or for Canada."

Former Canada U20 player Ashley Campbell (20', 79') chipped in with a brace for the Londoners to make it an even six on the night, which was more than enough despite two tallies from Vaughan by Anna Karpenko (18') and Cassandre Van Bakel (67').

"Vaughan was behind and had to commit more players forward to score, which in turn led to more space for us to counter-attack," said Marcoccia.

"When you have players like Jade, Nicole [Nielsen], Ashley and Kaila [Novak] in your attack, you can get in behind the defensive line and I think they did a good job of transitioning from more of a build-up approach to a counter-attack game," he added.

"Vaughan did a really good job of pressing us in the first half and causing problems in our build-up play, so we made some adjustments at half. We did not change our style, but we had to be more creative with the options that we were looking to play and as the game went on we got better in that respect."

With the result, London go joint-second in the table on 23 points along with Vaughan Azzurri and Unionville Milliken SC - only two points behind North Mississauga in first place.

However, FC London holds an edge on the competition, with one game in hand on North Mississauga and Unionville, and two games in hand on Vaughn Azzurri.

"This game obviously meant a lot to me," said Marcoccia.

"If we look at the standings right now this match was super important, and also I think Vaughan is an amazing team."

"They have incredible players and I know that. I stayed fairly animated tonight because Vaughan is a team where you could be up two goals and they will score three in the last ten minutes. They are capable of doing that, and I wanted to keep my players fully engaged in what was going on."

FC London will next play West Ottawa SC on August 11 at Beckwith Park, Ottawa.

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Woodbridge Strikers on August 8 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge.
