Antonio Downey (35', 40') took his two penalties with assurance as the Sanjaxx Lions rolled to a 2-0 win over Aurora FC in Matchweek 14.

"We were more disciplined than other games, they stuck to the task," said Sanjaxx assistant coach, Devon Porter.

"We asked them to play behind the ball and they did. They got loose sometimes, but we kept them on track. They saw the game out and managed it well today. These are young boys, it's a young team for the most part, and they are only going to get better from here."

A clean sheet by Nuno Manuel Gil Goncalves secured the result for Sanjaxx in a team performance that earned praise from assistant coach Devon Porter.

"I think we can keep the ball more and move it a little bit better," said Porter.

"We play a little bit stagnant at times. Our transition game needs to get better, but I think as time goes by we will get it. The team is always improving."

Aurora FC also had a penalty awarded but the effort was saved by Goncalves. Aurora FC head coach Derek O'Keeffe was frustrated by the result, but ultimately felt his side clearly didn't do enough to get the three points.

"Poor game of football all around, I thought both teams were poor," he said.

"I thought we started quite well, probably should have scored an early goal but didn't. I don't fault the effort of our players, I thought they tried. I don't think Sanjaxx created anything other than the two penalties and we had one of our own but couldn't score."

"If you don't take your chances, you don't score or win - simple as that.

Aurora FC will next play Pro Stars FC on August 5 at Avondale Stadium, Brampton.

Sanjaxx Lions will next play Vaughan Azzurri on August 13 at Monarch Park, Toronto.
