Vaughan Azzurri's Brandon Mills (90' + 2') snagged the only goal of the game against North Mississauga Panthers after a determined and relatively even display from both sides resulted in a near deadlock.

"We play as well as our opponents and I think Vaughan played very well, as far as their tactical play, system, work ethic," said North Mississauga head coach, Sam Medeiros.

"For North Miss, it has been one of those tough things that has been hanging over our heads all season. We had a breakthrough on the keeper and he saves it, we hit a crossbar, a goal-post - at the end of the day, it could have gone either way. I think we had the best chances but that is sport and how the ball rolls."

"In the end, Vaughan scored."

Vaughan's Andrew D'Souza claimed the clean sheet but it was North Mississauga's keeper Adrian Michael Ibanez that was singled out as the MVP by Vaughan's head coach Carmine Isacco.

"They made it very difficult for us, they are a very organized team," said Isacco.

"Their keeper made a huge difference for sure. His maturity, his communication, all that was fantastic - he was man of the match as far as I was concerned."

Vaughan's players were continually frustrated by the North Miss defence, and with seven points behind Woodbridge Strikers in first position in the east division (and the Strikers yet to play high-flying west division side Toronto FC III) - the match became an exercise in managing a growing desperation.

"At this level they need to motivate themselves as well," said Isacco. "It's about organizing them."

"For some players it is tough to get motivated but they need to be the best players on the pitch at all times. Credit to them, they stayed present and worked hard."

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Woodbridge Strikers on August 9 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge.

North Mississauga Panthers will next play OSU Force on August 12 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
